In #LatAm the civic space is shrinking in many countries (including Paraguay) and the region remains one of the most dangerous for human rights defenders. Development must include strong safeguards for human rights, gender equality, and environmental protection, for fair and sustainable projects.
The Inter-American Development Bank held its annual meeting in my beautiful Paraguay 🇵🇾 and I had the opportunity to join the civil society engagement spaces.
As development banks finance projects across the region, they also have a responsibility to ensure their work does not place CSOs at risk.

In his first major move as Canada’s prime minister, Mark Carney eliminated roughly a third of all cabinet positions, including the crucially important Minister of Women and Gender Equality.
This decision marks a major setback for women’s rights in Canada.
