Important read by @victorerikray.bsky.social about the anti-intellectualism centers popping up at universities across the US. Also critical to point out universities are hypocritically & simultaneously shutting down departments born from ‘movements for broader inclusion in mainstream American life.’

A good morning to read about birthright citizenship from the perspective of the great-grandson of Wong Kim Ark, the plaintiff whose case in 1898 affirmed that birthright citizenship is guaranteed to the children of undocumented migrants born in the U.S. wapo.st/3F9Djae
Congratulations, Ebony!!! I’m so grateful to have you as a colleague, and happy the university has recognized your significant accomplishments in this way. Hope you are celebrating in all the ways that are joyful for you!
Rep. Laurel Libby, R-Auburn, recently used my second-place finish in the 1,600-meter run, and that of my teammate in the 800-meter run, to malign Soren Stark-Chessa, the trans-identified athlete who finished first. One of the reasons I chose to run cross-country and track is the community: Teammates cheering each other on, athletes from different schools coming together, and the fact that personal improvement is valued as much as, if not more than, the place we finish. Last Friday, I ran the fastest 1,600-meter race I have ever run in middle school or high school track and earned varsity status by my school’s standards. I am extremely proud of the effort I put into the race and the time that I achieved. The fact that someone else finished in front of me didn’t diminish the happiness I felt after finishing that race. I don’t feel like first place was taken from me. Instead, I feel like a happy day was turned ugly by a bully who is using children to make political points. We are all just kids trying to make our way through high school. Participating in sports is the highlight of high school for some kids. No one was harmed by Soren’s participation in the girls’ track meet, but we are all harmed by the hateful rhetoric of bullies, like Rep. Libby, who want to take sports away from some kids just because of who they are. Anelise Feldman Freshman, Yarmouth High School Yarmouth

“[Ono’s] tenure makes sense if we see it as an auditioning tape for Gov. Ron DeSantis, Florida’s Republican leader, the man who pioneered the authoritarian assault on higher education.”

Andry José Hernández Romero
Andry José Hernández Romero, I remember you, even if I do not know how to articulate my horror, rage, & sorrow at your treatment by my government.
No one has heard from you in 43 days.
As vigil, I’m posting a photo of you every day until you are returned from El Salvador.
BREAKING: A court ruled that our case challenging Rümeysa Öztürk's unlawful detention should move forward in Vermont, instead of Louisiana, and that ICE must transfer her there.
Nobody should be shipped to a detention facility halfway across the country for writing an op-ed.

I'm not saying journalists should never interview admitted propagandists. There are journalistic reasons to do so. But if we do, we must be prepared to -- in fact it is our duty to -- challenge vociferously all unsubstantiated claims. Otherwise, we ourselves become propagandists.
“There comes a time when one must take a position that is neither safe, nor politic, nor popular, but one must take it because one’s conscience tells one that it is right.’”
Do you know which of these—cowardice, expediency, vanity, or conscience—is driving leaders’ decisions at your institutions?
Amazing rally by the Black Student Union today calling upon the University of Michigan to act on its values and protect its students. We are the people! We are the power!

A reminder that if the government can send migrants to a prison camp without any due process, it can send U.S. citizens there, too. I know because this happened to me and my family in 1942.

Yes, I wish the dues were cheaper, too, but they've been pretty amazing lately, and they need the cash and are doing good things with it.

About the ACA: go talk to elder Millennials who were dropped from their parents' insurance at the height of the Great Recession because they aged out... when no one was hiring.
Go talk to anyone living with pre-existing conditions.
Was the ACA enough? No. Better than what existed before? Yes.
