With the huge challenges facing scientists, I call on peer reviewers to reflect on their role as gatekeepers to trainee career development and scientific progress. You can maintain high standards for rigor while being kind and not demanding an extra year of studies for every paper revision.

RONALD REAGAN (1988): We should be aware of the demagogues who are ready to declare a trade war against our friends, weakening our economy, our national security, and the entire free world—all while cynically waving the American flag.

Thank you @nicolecrust.bsky.social with yesterday’s events this takes on new meaning and importance. Today I have been calculating the dollar return on dollars invested in science - it’s usually doubled and often much more. Let’s spread the word. Biomedical science isn’t a luxury, it’s a necessity.

DEIAtruth@opm.gov is the email trumps admin wants you to use to turn in people for continuing DEI initiatives. (Don’t)
Maybe we should all email in reports about Trump & his administration instead.
Sign them something fun like “fueled by spite” “wrathfully” “you’re the worst” etc

All NIH study sections canceled indefinitely. This will halt science and devastate research budgets in universities.
