Paul Robeson was born on this day in 1898, the son of a man who freed himself from slavery. He also was deeply committed to unions that were antiracist and anti-imperialist. He even was an honorary member of the @ilwu.bsky.social and friends with Harry Bridges! www.aaihs.org/paul-robeson...

Statement of Harold J. Daggett on ILA's Solidarity with ILWU Coos Bay Dispute Harold J. Daggett, International President, International Longshoremen's Association (ILA) issued the following statement of solidarity to the International Longshore and Warehouse Union (ILWU) in their dispute at the Port of Coos Bay, Oregon, on behalf of the ILA's 85,000 members: The International Longshoremen's Association, representing 85,000 members at port along the Atlantic and Gulf Coast; Great Lakes Region; Puerto Rico; Eastern Canada; major U.S. Rivers; and the Bahamas, expresses our full support to our Sister and Brother members of the International Longshore and Warehouse Union (ILWU) in their dispute at the Port of Coos Bay, Oregon. We are greatly disturbed and concerned about the reported use of non-union labor under inferior conditions at the Oregon Pellet Mills terminal. We regard this as not just an attack on the rank and file members of the ILWU working at the Port of Coos Bay Oregon, but an attack on all dockworkers across the United States and globally. Be certain that the ILA joins with the International Dockworkers Council (IDC) in condemning the use of non-union labor and will join with dockworkers around the world in a powerful global response to this threat. We will not tolerate any employers attempting to undermine established working standards, eroding workers' rights and as the JDC noted, "setting a dangerous precedent for the global port industry." The ILA warns all port stakeholders at the Port of Coos Bay, Oregon - terminal operators, shipping companies, and associated commercial partners- that dockworkers and maritime workers are organized globally to fight any challenges to our jobs, as evidenced by our powerfully successful Summitt in Lisbon, Portugal this past November. The ILA will lead the charge with the JDC to defend our jobs and standards joined by force of the Global Dockworker Organized Labor Community. The ILA will remain a "Force To Be Reckoned W…
Thank you, International Longshoremen's Association, for the message of solidarity as we fight to protect area standard wages and benefits in Coos Bay.
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE March 19, 2026 ILWU Statement on the 60-Day Jones Act Waiver On behalf of the International Longshore and Warehouse Union (ILWU), we strongly oppose the Trump Administration’s decision to issue a blanket 60-day waiver of the Jones Act. A blanket Jones Act waiver such as this undermines our national security, weakens military readiness and shifts critical maritime work to foreign vessel operators. During a time of heightened international conflict and uncertainty, opening U.S. waterways to foreign vessels is a dangerous move for the U.S. mariners we represent. The strength and security of our nation’s maritime industry rely on the Jones Act. The ILWU urges the Administration and Congress to pause this action and work with stakeholders – including labor – to develop responsible, long-term solutions.
Thank you @laborcaucus.house.gov
for supporting ILWU Local 12 workers in their fight to preserve area wage & benefit standards. Good jobs build strong communities. Undermining these conditions w/substandard wages & benefits only leads to a race to the bottom. We know we can count on your support.
Solidarity with ILWU dockers on the picket line in Coos Bay Oregon as they take a stand against the union busting of Oregon Pellet Mill.
Oregon Pellet Mill is refusing to employ union workers or pay adequate wages. Our message is simple - respect the jurisdiction of the ILWU!

Image of the ILWU Statement on letterhead. The International Longshore and Warehouse Union (ILWU) released the following statement: “The ILWU strongly condemns the senseless killing of Alex Pretti, an AFGE Local 3669 member and ICU nurse at the Minneapolis Veterans Affairs. “Alex was shot after being wrestled to the ground by a group of masked ICE agents while lawfully exercising his First and Second Amendment rights. He was one of thousands of Minnesotans who have courageously chosen to stand in solidarity with their neighbors, coworkers, and community amid an ongoing escalation of federal government violence against the people of Minneapolis. “Our deepest condolences go out to Alex’s family and community. We join in calls for accountability and for an open and transparent investigation into Alex’s death led by local and state law enforcement.” Robert Olvera, Jr International President Ryan Whitman International Vice President, Mainland Edwin R. Ferris International Secretary-Treasurer
The International Longshore and Warehouse Union (ILWU) released the following statement: “The ILWU strongly condemns the murder of Renee Good by a masked ICE agent in Minneapolis. Our condolences go out to her family and loved ones. “The violent escalations by ICE agents in cities across the United States are an attempt to terrorize and intimidate migrant communities and anyone who dares to raise their voice in protest. “This abuse of power by ICE agents and the militarization of our communities is making us less safe and poses an existential threat to our civil liberties, freedoms, and constitutional rights. “The ILWU stands in solidarity with all of those courageously protecting their migrant neighbors, coworkers, and communities from the federal government’s ongoing reckless and dangerous attacks.”

ILWU Statement of Policy: The ILWU Versus Fascism
On December 12, the ILWU International Executive Board unanimously approved the Statement of Policy: The ILWU Versis Facsim.
Great to sit down with ILWU Local 46, as well as Port of Hueneme and Oxnard district officials to talk about supporting our ports, longshoremen, and local economy. Investing in our ports is essential for the small businesses and communities that rely on them.
Much thanks to ILWU for standing in solidarity with federal employees across the nation!
The International Longshore and Warehouse Union released the following statement: The International Longshore and Warehouse Union (ILWU) strongly opposes the escalation and continued use of tariff threats by both the Chinese and United States governments. Trade policies based on chaotic and unpredictable tariffs have led to unnecessary inflation and financial uncertainty in our communities, at our jobsites and at the dinner tables of working-class families in America. The announcements by both governments of yet more change to international trade and tariff policy will create additional instability across our supply chain and economy, harming workers and businesses alike. We urge the leadership of the United States government to resolve these issues while keeping in mind the real life impact their decisions have on Americans.
