The General Assembly recently passed HB 1263 and SB 378, a historic step forward for the rights of teachers, school staff, and public servants. However, a new "substitute" version of the bill has been proposed that significantly weakens these protections.

Instead of signing the collective bargaining bill, Abigail Spanberger submitted more than 20 amendments that had not been discussed during the session which essentially gut the bill and make it so that a politically appointed (by any future governor) board will be able to decide who can bargain, what can be bargained, etc. That means our union (which finally won bargaining rights after working for it for YEARS) could lose our rights depending on who the Governor is and who they appoint to a board. She removed the ability for arbitration. She delayed any effectiveness until 2030 and removed school-based administrators from having their own bargaining unit (that would now be up to the PERB to decide.) It would be better for the GA to reject her amendments and send the bill back to her, where she may refuse to sign it, than for it to be passed in this form. 🤬

Anyone in schools right now finds no shortage of mental health concerns ALREADY. Are we going to fund the resources and positions to help? Or just build spreadsheets and graphs?

A pic of a beautiful Oreo kitty resting on my lap as I slowly ease into a waking state on the couch back in our Virginian home. I’m ironically wearing a brightly colored shirt with a parrot that I’d intended to have before I left for Cancun.

I’m forgiven by the sweet baby for leaving for so long!

I’m hopeful these are dogwoods or something, ANYTHING that’s not a Bradford pear tree? Anyhoo, these flower white trees represent a nice counterpoint to my daily pictures of the Caribbean Sea over the last week

one time on a plane a young man very confidently explained to me that 2/3 of all babies died in infancy before the invention of the ceiling fan. this is a dramatic reenactment of that event

The translucent pants and low-quality have only highlighted that they were always a cash grab. I yearn for the cream alternate uniform of Braves past.

Heads up, Charlottesville:

I just got an emailed "VIP Movement Notification" from the FAA for a 30-nautical-mile-radius temporary flight restriction in the Charlottesville area on April 10th. Details--time of day and exact location--are still pending.

30-milers are for presidential movements.

Whitey Ford, Reggie Jackson, Mariano Rivera … Jeter seems just above Jorge Posada for me, maybe tied with A-Rod.

Right? Add in Babe, Gehrig, Mantle, Dimaggio, even Maris!, not to mention pitchers in there, I still think I could come up with even 5 more better than Jeter
