Iโ€™ve always said that submitting a grant proposal is an exercise in hopeโ€”not just in terms of being funded, but as a symbol of what it means to dream big and ask exciting questions. Despite everything happening to federal science over the last year, Iโ€™m holding on to that hope.

Proposal submitted.

Ceratiomyxa sphaerosperma from Mera, Pastaza, Ecuador. This tiny slime mold makes its spores on little stalks, giving it a distinctive appearance. My favorite feature of these are the glass-like stems.

This spring, Iโ€™m having my Paleoecology undergrads read one popular science book about a topic related to course themes (the history of life on Earth, any time or taxonomic group). Whatโ€™s your favorite book in that vein? Iโ€™ve got a list of ~20 but want to make sure Iโ€™m not missing any good ones!
