I honestly don't have a clue on that windows situation. We're still on the early stages of Origin (It's currently Nightly and I think it's just arriving in Beta) so we're still working on the official "Announcement". That should be coming soon and maybe address that question and more.

And also, this doesn't mean that regular Brave will force you into features at all. You can still disable all the features regular Brave has and end up in a very similar state for Origin. So, it's up to the person to choose to purchase Origin to support Brave, or just keep using the regular version

So we don't expect this to be a massive product by any means. This is just to cater to our power users that just want the browser and that's it. It was also a decision to make it free on Linux, since people using Linux don't typically pay for software and we keep up the FOSS ideal.

Yes, and you're right, this is a very niche product for a very niche audience. This is a direct response to people reaching out to Brave on Twitter saying that they feel like the app is "bloated" and that they would pay for a straight up bare bones version of the browser that only has Shields.

Buying Origin or not is up to you, you will still be able to use normal Brave as usual, Origin is just for power users who don't want anything but the best ad-blocker / privacy in the industry

So we have to charge for Origin, to keep the lights on and pay the people who maintain Origin.

Eventually all browsers will have to do this, running a browser is not free and costs a lot of money.

Donations seem great because you <don't> have to pay for the project...

... simply because it is different from everyone, many users use Brave Leo + wallet, some use just Brave Leo and turn off the wallet and so on

So we decided to simply remove everything, but removing the things that makes us money, sponsored images, Brave Leo, VPN, etc obv doesn't make us money

Pero después incluso le pedí a Cursor que me haga preview de todos los links para asegurarme que funcionan, y listo. Ni tengo que testear a mano. Una repasada para asegurarme de que los nombres coincidan y eso y a shippearlo

Tuve que corregir un par de cosas, obvio. Por ejemplo cambiar en Figma para que todos los textos donde cargo esa data usen fuentes mono, así no se equivoca en links (L y l, I, etc.) pero me tomó mucho menos tiempo que hacerlo manualmente, donde al final ya termino quemado y cometo errores también

No se me había ocurrido en Enero, pero acabo de automatizar la creación de un .json que usamos para las imágenes de pestañas nuevas, que antes tenía que cargar manualmente con Autor, nombre de archivo, link, tipo de atribución, etc. Le dije a Cursor que agarre el figma donde tengo todo cargado, boom
