It’s kind of astonishing how many news outlets have published versions of a “Tucker Carlson apologized for telling people to support Trump” story by writers who very clearly did not listen to the podcast.

It was great to join @cfscquakers.bsky.social and @pbicanada.bsky.social last week to explore how Quakers and others working against arms fairs in the UK and Canada can be in solidarity with each other.
Good luck to everyone witnessing against the CANSEC arms fair in Ottawa next month!

“People are angry about issues around housing. People are upset with how public assets have been sold off. We know there are issues in our communities. But those problems aren’t caused by migrants. Reform are exploiting people for their own political gain.”

The amount of money and effort spent on keeping people hooked on fossil fuels over the last five decades is simply astounding. What if the same people had spend that much money and effort into developing alternatives?
"Rahmstorf, who has studied the Amoc for 35 years, has said a collapse must be avoided 'at all costs'. 'I argued this when we thought the chance of an Amoc shutdown was maybe 5%, and even then we were saying that risk is too high, given the massive impacts. Now it looks like it’s more than 50%.'"
… and foster internationalism: friendship and interdependence between the people of all nations.
Alternatively we could slash welfare spending, pump money into weapons of war, and hand even more wealth and power to those ruling, and ruining, the world.
Every crisis presents opportunities. Every crisis brings us to another fork in the road.
Let' s shut down the FF industry, decarbonise the global economy, quickly transition towards safer, cleaner energy…

Oil and gas companies will make $234bn by the end of the year if the oil price continues to average $100.
The excess profits come from the pockets of ordinary people as they pay high prices to fill up their vehicles and power their homes, as well as from businesses' higher energy bills.
Drax has claimed a total of about £8.7bn in renewable energy subsidies since 2012, despite persistent claims from campaigners and scientists that the wood pellets burned at its power plant are not sourced sustainably and may be increasing carbon emissions.
ITV/More in Common have a poll Birmingham City Council.
But projecting council seats across Birmingham on universal swing is a method certain to get it wrong: (eg for Reform, Greens + Independents).
Eg: Independents 1 seat for 11% (assuming even 11% everywhere)

"Nowhere is as broken as Birmingham,” Nigel Farage said in February. “We’re going to throw everything we’ve got at those Birmingham elections.”
🌍🏥 The climate emergency is a health emergency.
At #uhealth26 Neil Cartwright, net zero programme manager for NHS England, warns the climate crisis is already harming patients and health services.

James Bembridge on X: Hate is too weak a word for what I feel towards the NHS. I'd tear it down and salt the earth upon which it stood.
Lovely people, these Reform UK candidates for the upcoming election, and great to know they're on our side.
I can't help shake the feeling the Epstein saga is being used to humiliate normal people, you know, all of us who aren't in the super elite class.
Are we really going to let them get away with it?
Are we so broken that they can literally fuck our kids, and we just let them?
If we do, we are lost.
Today, 'Lord' George Robertson, who is a paid lobbyist for the arns industry, has been promoted by the BBC, to say that the UK's welfare budget is too high, and that more money should be spent on- surprise!- defence.
It's very hot, El Niño will make it hotter, and the latest science shows more danger of Atlantic currents collapsing.
Other than that, it's going great!

My analysis of the fiscal impact of the "earned settlement" proposals, based on government's own data.
The direct savings are a fraction of the Home Secretary's misleading claims, and likely to be offset by the substantial costs of lower work-related migration.

Some energy suppliers may be offering heavily discounted or free electricity this summer when there's more wind and solar power than the electricity grid needs. It's reported that this could be the first summer the grid runs entirely on zero-carbon electricity. 🙌 www.theguardian.com/environment/...
“We cannot defend Britain with an ever-expanding welfare budget”
Robertson wants ⬆️ spending on weaponry to be funded by low-income families, lone parents, young people, pensioners, people with disabilities/long-term illness, renters, carers, migrants & people living in the UK's most deprived areas
Is anybody arguing the case for cultivating peaceful relationships both within our nation and with other nations. It would cost a fraction of the defence budget and make us all be and feel more safe and secure. Is the notion of working hard for and investing in peacemaking too radical a one?
This is a searing attack - giftarticle.ft.com/giftarticle/... and not just on Labour, it's on everyone. Needs to be taken seriously
David Lammy. Great to catch up with my friend JD Vance today in DC following his talks in Pakistan. It's vital that the cewsedire continues and we get shipping flowing freely again through the Straits of Hormuz. We continue to work together towards a just and lasting piece in Ukraine.
"My friend."
This is how our government greets those accused of war crimes.
This is not diplomacy. It's debasement.
The US will close the Straits of Hormuz because the Iranians will not open the Straits of Hormuz despite the US bombing Iran in response to them closing the Straits of Hormuz because only the US is allowed to extort other countries via the Straits of Hormuz.
Even if the conflict in the Middle East ends today, higher fuel, fertiliser and pesticide prices will lead to a food shock in the coming months. There is no easy way out, but accelerating the net-zero transition will help prevent future shocks
Yesterday Hannah Spencer MP came to Birmingham to help us celebrate having a candidate in every single one of the 101 Birmingham local council seats, meaning EVERYONE in Brum can #VoteGreen on May 7!

Me, Safina Aftab, Kamel Hawwash, and Sadia Khan in Birmingham.
Great to do some door knocking today with @kamelhawwash.bsky.social's campaign in Stirchley and to meet Safina Aftab, who is running in Sparkhill, and Sadia Khan (@sparkgreenpark.bsky.social), running in Acocks Green.
It's nice to feel hopeful about the positive change that really is possible.
