We'll be there! Last year the size and scope of what was available felt on another level. Earplugs were an essential in the main halls.

Club Spooky - a player reaches for his talking points to bid on creatures in the club lobby, to add to their clique for scoring
That's the Spirit - evidence cards have been revealed and playing are tallying totals to see who is the culprit in this social deduction puzzler
Getting two kickstarter #boardgames to the table the day after delivery... must be a record! Already some very funny moments - one player's picky clique collapsed in a cascade in Club Spooky and the tornado suit in That's the Spirit allowed the other players to manipulate me into the culprit!
Or indeed, wooOooOoo ๐ป
Club Spooky and That's the Spirit! - two small box card games in front of a kallax full of other games
Always a good day when it's a Kickstarter delivery day, and especially so when it's a couple of spooky card games from @connor.alwaysawake.games - excited to try these out!
Yes. Beautiful platonic relationship plus optimistic sci-fi. Hope in movie form.
Bella Vista. A board is covered in 3D buildings in different colours as players fight for scoring objectives and opportunities.
It looks great on the table for sure! I enjoyed it today, plus it feels like games will be very different due to the amount of variables baked in - map layout, card sequencing, end game goals etc.
A custom Magical Athlete track, featuring shortcuts where you can jump further ahead - risking elimination. Or behind to try and farm points or back of the pack shenanigans.
A custom Magical Athlete track featuring an intersecting loop which is also a 1 point space.
A friend at our local #boardgames club brought along some homemade maps for @cmyk.games' Magical Althete. New mechanics included push-your-luck shortcuts, an intersecting loop and a narrow section. For a first revision, provided a lot of laughs at the table. This game is ripe for home-brewing.
I'm positively vibrating to go see this. I will be going over the weekend, hassled friends to book tickets last night.
A selection of games I purchased at Airecon in front of a kallax full to bursting with other games. The games pictured are - Akropolis: Pantheon, Bella Vista, Overparked, One Hit Heroes, Symbiosis, Bus & Stop, Prey, One for Sorrow, Johari's Window and Agent Avenue: Division M.
Forgot to share the #boardgames picked up at #airecon last weekend. Missing from this photo is the Faraway: Under Starry Skies expansion which got added to the base box during the weekend itself.
Akropolis: Pantheon. Several individual cities are spread outside of a central capital city which players have collaboratively built to try and achieve a high score.
Played the Akropolis: Pantheon expansion. Always fascinating by an expansion that turns a game cooperative. It turns it into a cozy, but fairly brain burning puzzle. You have to balance playing tiles into your own city (to enable scoring) versus the capital (where you actually score) #boardgames
I would very much like to see y'all more! We should make that happen.
... and different games with people. It's great to do that with people who understand what you're doing and can see the passion you have. Every year more and more people thank me for introducing them to a game that they've gone away and shared with others, and that brings me so much joy. 3/3
... I still had a really good time. A lot of that is down to the wonderful people. I especially love playing games with @ava.foxfort.net @giantbrain.co.uk and @timclare.bsky.social - who are so delightfully enthusiastic and thoughtful about games. I love to find and share delightful, weird... 2/3
Was back to work today after #airecon post-con blues not got me just yet. I do find conventions overstimulating. Combined with me pushing myself to try and squeeze as much as I can out of my time... not necessarily the healthiest or kindest on your body to treat events this way! Regardless... 1/3
Dorfromantik Tournament Set - two villages drafted from a single set by two players at the end of a game
Took part in a Dorfromantik tournament at #airecon - this used a tournament set of tiles and different ruleset. You do a full open draft of the available landscape and task tiles with your opponent - you then shuffle them up and play simultaneously - each creating your own village.
Delayed day 2 and day 3 #airecon game roundup - First Rat, Gibberers, Framlet, Waypoints, Covenant, Typeset, Castell, Harvest, Gachapon Trick and Dorfromantik (tournament set) - more on that shortly!
I have been bestowed the title of "purveyor of weird games" at #airecon which I consider the highest honour. More than anything I'm grateful for this convention being full of wonderful lovely people who are interested in trying pretty much anything!
Day 1 game roundup at #airecon - a quick demo of Yubibo, the Faraway tournament, Gibberers, Wizards Showdown, Fishing, Earth, Persuasion and Flip 7. Also spent a bunch on new games (more trick-takers!), but sold some games in the bring n buy so it's basically neutral, honest.
Day 0 at @aireconuk.bsky.social done! Featuring - Gachapon Trick, Short Zoot Suit, Nokosu Dice, Magical Athlete and Harvest. Roll on the rest of the weekend, looking forward to checking out the exhibitors and taking part in @hachettebguk.bsky.social's Faraway tournament tomorrow. #boardgames
Fat fox! ๐ฆ
The dice consent meme from last year lives in my head rent free. Excited to see what moment worms it's way into my cerebellum this time around.
I may be slightly biased but if you're going to @aireconuk.bsky.social and not planning on attending the just announced @timclare.bsky.social talk on 'The History of Monopoly and the Game of Life' I think you'll be missing out
@amabel.bsky.social @xoe.gay regarding Persuasion I asked a couple of rule questions on BGG about discarding and publicly declaring actions. Would greatly appreciate your input when you have time!
1975: White Christmas, helicopter cards have been placed next to various buildings, where players will use drafted cards to take additional actions to try and effectively airlift people out and return them to their rescue boat.
Persuasion - players have a selection of trait cards in front of them, some face up, some face down, which have abilities and also a number of icons - that you may or may not be interested in as a potential marriage partner.
Isla - two player sheets with tokens of flora, fauna and fossils. A meeple moves around the player sheet through a roll and move, roll and write mechanism based on multiple colourful dice that are placed to one side.
Dualis - a player is holding a hand of cards comprising of two suits and colours. A pile of facedown cards is nearby on the table, a partnership token is placed on top and on to the side, indicating they need to win another trick.
Some additional highlights of games I've recently played - 1975: White Christmas, Persuasion, Isla and Dualis. Feels impossible to summarise all of them in a single post, but please ask if you want to know more about any of them. They are all fascinating (and fun) in one way or another! #boardgames
Adulting. A 'routine' of self-care and chore cards are in front of the player, with a central row of attitude cards, self-care and chores. Their deck and hand of attitude cards are off to one side. Attitude cards have been played on top of the self-care and chores cards, triggering their effects.
I was very happy when some friends asked to play Adulting again and we finally managed to not burn out - and two out of three of us became our ideal selves! This game nails the theme, and the stressed out mood of having too many chores to do with too little time and energy for self care. #boardgames
When roleplaying turns out to be the same ol' mortifying ordeal of being known ๐
I found a lot of written advice that didn't include examples, so it was really helpful to see it demonstrated, and helped me to better process it!
I really appreciate @ava.foxfort.net and @timclare.bsky.social spending so much time on my question, the stepped through example was really helpful. I think my biggest takeaways are - to be looking for and providing hooks, just going with the first simple tropey ideas, and asking for help.
We're looking forward to Airecon as well - see you there!
Excited to listen! Will report back once I have.
