How they’ll be shaping our future:
📝 Migration Stories: Preserving community histories for our collection
📝 Events: Co-producing our public programme and developing our events strategy
📝 Permanent Home: Designing our visitor experience and spatial layout
Supported by @citybridgefndn.bsky.social this project brings together over 50 brilliant individuals with lived experience & connections from the City of London, Tower Hamlets, and Lewisham. They will act as a "critical friends" to ensure the museum truly reflects the people it serves.
An image featuring a grid of 18 individual headshots, arranged in three rows of six. Each person is centered and facing the camera with various expressions, ranging from wide smiles to neutral gazes. They are of diverse ages, genders, and race, wearing a variety of casual clothing including sweaters, hoodies, and collared shirts. The background for every portrait is a consistent, colorful mosaic wall with a repetitive geometric pattern in shades of blue, red, and green.
A museum only exists through the stories it holds. To make sure ours belongs to everyone, we’re building it with the people who live them. 🏛️✨

We are grateful to our partner and developers, Dominus whose own leadership by Sukhpal Ahluwalia reflects a migration story of entrepreneurship and contribution. Thank you also to the team at McAleer & Rushe who are delivering the building and to the City of London who awarded planning permission.
The 'topping out' is a kick-start to the next phase of our very ambitious capital fundraising appeal. If you believe in the importance of building a more cohesive national conversation about migration through world-class galleries, learning spaces and more, contact us and become part of this legacy.
At a time when migration is too often discussed through the language of crisis and division, we will offer a place for shared stories, learning, and representation. Our museum will recognise that migration is not a footnote to British history, but part of the stories and tapestries of all of us.
A group of approximately 15 people wearing white hard hats and neon yellow safety vests stand on the rooftop of a construction site for a topping out ceremony. They are posing behind a blue pedestal branded with "Dominus" and "McAleer & Rushe." Above them, a crane hoists a large concrete block bearing the McAleer & Rushe logo. Modern London skyscrapers are visible in the background.
A high-angle wide shot of a multi-story building under construction at 65 Crutched Friars in London. The concrete frame is largely complete, with blue safety netting on lower levels and several blue construction cranes towering over the site. In the background, the iconic "Gherkin" skyscraper and other City of London high-rises are visible under a cloudy sky.
Last month we celebrated a major milestone: the topping out of our future home at 65 Crutched Friars. This was a special construction marker and an occasion to recognise that Britain’s first permanent Migration Museum is now moving from vision to reality!

People migrate for many reasons — safety, family, and new beginnings. Today, we’re sharing a few story discs shared by visitors that remind us how often love is the lead. Swipe to read. #Valentines
#HolocaustMemorialDay is an international day to remember the six million Jews murdered during the Holocaust, alongside millions more murdered through Nazi persecution of other groups and where persecution led in Cambodia, Rwanda, Bosnia and Darfur.
We collect these stories to create space for reflection on how lives and families have been shaped by migration, and the lasting impact of this history.
We invite you to share your own migration story in the comments below.
These are a few of the many personal stories shared with us by visitors and exhibition contributors that are connected to the Holocaust and where persecution led in Cambodia, Rwanda, Bosnia and Darfur.

A female teacher stands at the front of a bright room, speaking to a seated group of children wearing yellow shirts. Many children have their hands raised as if answering a question. Large photographs hang on the wall behind the teacher, and sunlight comes in through a window on the left.
