I got banned from twitter in 2023 for this drawing. They called it "violent speech". It had over 40K likes and too many comments for me to read before my ban, but I still see it floating around here and there. Save a copy, and use it freely. No attribution needed. Love u

This makes me so tired, I'm over here fighting through brain damage that has made creative writing break my brain open everytime I try, literally puking about it and this shit bird is like, I'll just get AI to do it for me and call myself a writer? Fucking hell

Are you a writer who doesn’t like to write? A professor who doesn’t like to teach? A teacher who doesn’t like to grade papers? Well, AI can—no, just kidding, you need another job.

A set of screenshots from DEEP SPACE NINE. An old Klingon throws his arms around Dax and shouts "Curzon, my beloved old friend!"

Dax returns the hug and says "I'm Jadzia now."

The Klingon grabs her shoulders, smiles, and says "Jadzia, my beloved old friend!"

Star Trek figured this out thirty years ago. It's not hard. Even an old, drunk Klingon got it.

Trans authors are writing some of the best SFF out there! For trans day of visibility, I grabbed a semi-random assortment of books by trans and nonbinary authors off my shelves. All of these I've either read & loved, my kids have read & loved, or are high on my TBR pile!

I can't stop thinking about writers using AI to write and readers using AI to summarize that writing. People's willingness to cede their capacity for thought to machines is baffling and alarming.

I recall a poetry prof from another life, who said that you're not a writer if you don't love words, and I don't think you love words if you're letting a computer pick them for you.

I would like them to stop playing gory horror ads on the Bob Ross channel

Who in the world is trying to see that when they're choosing to watch a channel that only shows Bob Ross???? No one. No one.

Even if you choose to be generous and say that seating Davidson near a mic was accidental (I'm guessing the mics are for crowd response), that doesn't explain the decision not to edit out the N word.

on stage until the N word and Michael B Jordan and Delroy Lindo's reactions. He removed himself shortly after.

BBC did edit out most of the slurs (including him saying something homophobic when Alan Cummings was on stage) but left in the N word even after Warner Brothers asked them to remove it

To summarize what seems to be the story of BAFTA: They knew John Davidson has Tourettes and hurls out slurs, sat him near the back of the room and chose to seat him near a hot mic. According to him he was told any slurs would be edited out and that he was unaware that his ticks could be heard /1

So I feel (both as a reader & author) like discoverability of new books is down lately, especially for the midlist. Please tell me some recently published (past year-ish) SFF books you loved that are midlist/overlooked/deserve more hype! (And please share your recs/this list!)

My recs in reply!

Sun Quan sighed and said: ... Those who posses riches and honors yet able to break their vices and engross themselves with studies, finding pleasure in books, think little of wealth and uphold the righteous. Those [men] can leave a legacy and be their State's great men, this is the excellent!"
