How a Janet Jackson song crashed laptops for 9 years In 2001, Microsoft support employees made a shocking discovery: Janet Jackson's hit, "Rhythm Nation," could cause laptops to crash. New details have now come to light showing what was done about it.

God I love stories like this.

'Rhythm Nation' used to crash hard drives.

I remember getting so excited about the Andy Paley sessions after reading about it in that Uncut piece around 97/98 and then that album coming out instead 😔

Please do take five minutes to complain about this to the BBC (and it really does only take five minutes). And demand a reply. This is the big advantage of having a broadcaster funded in the way the BBC is funded. They are accountable to us and they have an obligation to explain themselves.

I love this kind of archeology. I've had my knowledge of what the blues is & was turned on its head over the past few years learning about singers like Ma Rainey, listening to podcasts & reading books like Larry Birnbaum's 'Before Elvis' a book that goes a lot deeper than 'before R&R'.

We went there for the day last year on a Sorrento holiday. The area around the train station was....grimy, to put it politely! Every pizza I had that week was the best I've ever had.

Maybe it's too much of a distraction to keep from having to tell kids to keep going into their bags all day? My kids left school 2&5 yrs ago and they had to keep them in their locker during lessons. Seemed like a reasonable compromise to me.

Yeah 75 feels weak to me. I would have started at around 85 and set my floor at 80. OTOH, if our PSR headroom is 75 minus the book value rather than the 45 we paid for him it could still be useful (I have no idea how this works...)

I feel this shows American cinema has desperately been trying to outflank TV for seventy years by providing what TV doesn't. In the 70s that mostly used to mean material too adult for TV. When American TV finally did provide that, cinema shifted to CGI spectacle on a scale TV couldn't afford.

Cabinet secretary apparently advised Starmer to wait for vetting before appointing Mandelson Documents also show US ambassadorial appointment was offered ‘higher tiers’ briefing before vetting was finalised

Talk about timing....

Also, is it really a 'breaking news' scoop if the headline contains the word 'apparently'. He either did or he didn't. I know there are legalities to consider but still.

Weird thing is two of them were specifically addressed to us, even our names. One of them handwritten. Is this normal now? Assuming they're using the electoral roll?

History lessons teach kids not just historical events but how to judge sources, and yeah, kids need to be taught how to do this with media/the online world.

This picture of Trump at his little desk should be wheeled out more often. Makes him look like the child he is.
