@zombiewretch.bsky.social @theverge.com I know you're probably busy with CES, but in other infuriating news, Logitech has broken everyone's mice, potentially because of a server-side issue. Yes, these mice apparently depend on a server to function.

@theverge.com there seems to be a bug preventing me from subscribing to new topics on the website. I click ‘Follow’, but it immediately goes back to me not following. In Safari on iOS, if it matters.

@gameinformer.com so happy you’re back! Some feedback: it looks like your RSS feeds are malformed. Opening them in NetNewsWire (not sure about other apps, haven’t tried) shows the raw HTML for some reason. Thanks!

The killer feature of the Switch (2) is the games, though. The competition won’t be able to play whatever new Mario or Zelda game comes out. That’s always been Nintendo’s strategy.

NYC is now the first city in the US with congestion pricing. The new tolling scheme that charges people $9 to drive below 60th Street in Manhattan went live at 12:00:01AM on Sunday. New York joins London, Singapore, Milan, and other global cities to force drive...

Glad to see your quick post! ❤️

Totally understandable, there’s a lot at the intersection of tech and transportation these days. Always appreciate your reporting, here’s hoping you get some more hands in 2025 😄

The only reference I can find on the site in the last year is Wes’ recent quick post about Lyft’s January rebate on the new fees.

I’m a bit surprised NYC’s congestion pricing rollout hasn’t been covered in The Verge. I get that it isn’t obviously a “tech” story, but it’s a direct challenge to the agenda pushed by car and rideshare companies (who do get consistent coverage). Feels like a relevant part of the narrative.

All fair points, especially agreed on 3. It's hard for me to imagine a world where we actually enforce antitrust, but you're probably right that that would go a long way here.

True, treating it like a utility is another option. It has similarities with existing utilities like water, electricity, etc.

I’m curious, why don’t you think it makes sense as something to be provided by the government directly?

The idea of a government-operated cloud and tech stack feels right to me. Computing resources are arguably as important as “classic” infrastructure like roads and bridges. Too important to leave to a few enormous for-profit corporations.

I think changing the animation style or the story would be worse. But I'll just watch the (fantastic) original, I don't need a shot-for-shot live-action version.

A live-action remake of a movie with a bunch of dynamic, mythical creatures that look like they were just copy-pasted from the original, shot-for-shot, seems pointless to me. (Obviously, the point is "we have no new ideas and want more money".)
