unrelated but what's your stance on unmanned drones for the purpose of surveillance and war?

Look I geddit, I understand no one wants to be the party of government when the Australian property market collapses. But I hope whomever is in power at the time has a contingency plan for:
1. regulating away predatory post-collapse investors
2. protecting renters and FTHB
3. genuine housing reform

I'm so grateful people like yourself have this kind of institutional memory and can point directly at hypocrisy - I read these columns with the sense that the truth is being bent, but appreciate when someone can step in and point to the bending!

plans B, C and D all involved pints, I hope.

this is reassuring though, considering how much of IR has refused to stay still since I started the PhD. Agility and flexibility with expertise is not just helpful, it's a survival skill

I would feel very stressed as an Australian if, five years ago, I had pivoted my entire professional expertise towards AUKUS

I've been logging complaints against this account since I first came across it in late November '25, and every response was meta's autofilled "nothing to see here"

hopefully a bit of publicity will get the content removed

Australia’s gun lobby says it’s ‘winning’ the fight against firearm control as numbers surge There are now more than 4m guns in the community – almost double the number recorded in the years after the Port Arthur massacre that prompted a national crackdown

What happened at Bondi is a tragedy and a crime. If there's one thing I hope for, it's that we don't fall into "now is not the time to talk about gun control" bullshit.

Now is EXACTLY the time to talk about gun control. We need to stop this from happening again. www.theguardian.com/australia-ne...

It feels important to name them considering the President is very specifically /not/ naming them in his insults. Also, it's just weird that the only woman journo who does get named is, of all people, Megyn Kelly...

I'm unsure if this is a Guardian editorial policy but I find it odd in a piece on Trump's knee-jerk misogyny in the face of ongoing Epstein pressure that they have chosen not to name the two women reporters he insulted.

We know it was Catherine Lucey from Bloomberg and ABC's Mary Bruce. 1/2

pleasantly surprised that writing along to the soundtracks of city-building computer games like Age of Empires and Sierra's Pharaoh - games I played non-stop as a kid - unlocks some instinctual hyper-productivity that adulthood had buried

It's great to see the publication of the second paper from our "queer pollies" project exploring the social media harassment of LGBTQIA+ politicians during the 2022 Australian federal election.

It's also Open Access!

The President's son then speaks on Fox! Power! Legitimacy! Why pretend like the right and left are on an equal playing field here?

7 months ago 1 0 0 0

And again, "[a]lready, both the far right and the far left are fuelling the flames." Fox News hosts "guest after guest blaming the left", and MSNBC (apparently the bastion of the far left?) hosts "at least one commentator."

Why are these presented like the same thing? In proportion and misinfo?

In the endless bothsiderisms of political violence, you're sanitising the fact that perpetrators of this violence are mostly ideologically aligned with one of these sides

7 months ago 0 0 1 0

The article digs in even further in it's summary of Jan 6. The "hard right" and "hard left" (lol) of the States disagree as to Trump's role of inciting violence in the capital, but then the rioters are discussed like some third party, as if they are not made up of that same "hard right."

It's on the reader to decide whether "both" sides are culpable in fomenting violence, as if one set of remarks isn't /literally/ demonstrating that. It would be good if the ABC was a little clearer on that.

Trump analysis aside - which in is broadly fine - I find the "dangerous threats and ghoulish celebrations" subheading disingenous and misleading. The reactions to Kirk's death are not split down the binary of promised retribution versus celebratory, but there is also a...
