No matter where you are from, your ancestors must have a messed up a lot in the past. So keep that in mind and everything else they left you, and make choices that will make YOU happy not them.

Just because some guy made a claim hundreds of years ago that "our culture is about this and that" doesn't ultimately matter if you don't carry it. You love your family and the practices and traditions they shared?

Nothing stops you from carrying them on and changing the world while you're at that!

It's a real nuisance when I hear "Oh no, we HAVE TO be oppressed, this is just my culture" from otherwise really smart and progressive people.

You can practice your culture AND be free, AND be happy!
So much of Polish culture is about being miserable and snarky, I reject that! You can too!

Saying that Japanese people can't comprehend how messed up corporations and copyright is because of their "culture" is really stupid.

It's just an excuse that strenghtens Japanese right wing, there's tons of Japanese who hate the system they're trapped within.
