Today, we mourn for the victims and their loved ones, we thank the first responders who rushed toward danger, and we recommit ourselves not just to grieving — but to doing the hard work necessary to prevent tragedies like this from happening again.
We owe it to these children and every family to confront the reality of this violence with urgency and seriousness — investing in stronger support systems for families in crisis, addressing domestic violence before it escalates, and ensuring our communities have the resources they need to stay safe.
But moments like this call for more than words alone. While leaders like Mike Johnson have offered prayers, the people of Louisiana deserve action that matches the scale of this crisis.
There are no words that can fully capture the grief our community and state is feeling right now. Like so many, we are holding the victims, their families, and loved ones in our hearts.
We are heartbroken by the devastating tragedy in Shreveport that has taken the lives of eight children and left multiple others injured. What began as a domestic dispute has resulted in unimaginable loss, with victims ranging from just a toddler to young teenagers.
