i’ve been hit with this in a conversation irl once and its like sure? but we’re talking philosophical now not practical, which is the actual reason anyone is even talking about it to begin with! not the philosophical aspect of it!

whenever you see people be like “its close to hitting AGI” just know they are lying to you because it’s genuinely currently impossible for this to happen at all

my biggest pet peeve around LLMs is when people (usually those invested in its success) call it “intelligent”. it definitionally, how it functions on a base level, is not intelligent. the way LLMs are built, it can never hit real intelligence. it’s just predictive

remember when celebrities seemingly randomly started coming out talking about how much they loved NFTs and thought it was super valuable and the future?

i know what my answer here is if this is the reality that’s coming for us, but capitalists probably won’t be happy about it

the primary reason no one trusts the pro-ai stance of “tech always replaces jobs, move on to the next job” is because ai is promising to replace jobs people who get laid off typically turn to, for example, uber driving. there’s zero welfare state in the US. what’s there to do?

clavicular being hospitalized for an overdose is honestly just sad to me, it will continue to escalate further, he has submitted his entire life into a panopticon streaming life and it never ends up good, a sickness of modern society

I Will Never Respect A Website If you like this piece and want to support my independent reporting and analysis, why not subscribe to my premium newsletter? It’s $70 a year, or $7 a month, and in return you get a weekly newsletter...

Today's free newsletter is about the dangers of treating AI as being more than it is - a website or app built on expensive technology, with dubious reliability and inherently unsustainable economics.

The rhetoric from AI labs has to change.

the tension with clavicular doing mainstream interviews is he genuinely sees himself as some sort of self health influencer philosopher but the average person generally looks at him like he’s an animal in a zoo to be studied

people keep using the comparison that “tech always made jobs obsolete” and yes true! but historically it led to new jobs, particularly advanced jobs above the old labor that was replaced. there’s no indication that is even possible if pro-ai boosters get their idealized reality

3 days ago 1169 76 20 3

ai has a “pr crisis” because we’re being told that it will replace everyones jobs and the plan from there appears to be to have to deal with not having a job or money. no one believes that the tech billionaires will bestow UBI or anything at all onto the “permanent underclass”

this being the thing that crosses the line for many rightwingers is so illustrative of how they don’t really care about anything real that actually matters. their problems are all entirely fictional
