Today marks 1 year since our 2nd album, Hinterland, was released. Being a record themed on the in-between, it is fitting that the anniversary falls on the day between Good Friday and Easter Sunday.
The album was a partnership with artist Gareth Hayward. Here is another of his works for the album.
The final part is in.
June 21st 2022 - April 2nd 2026
That’s how long this album has taken to record from start to finish. Now to finish mixing and then we master.
Yes you are!

What’s more important in an album (a Held By Trees one as it happens); a listening journey with variety, or a consistent and distinctive sonic identity?
I feel like I really don’t want to play the game with the next album. I don’t want it to be reviewed, I am not bothered about press or radio. It’s too personal to me to hawk it in the ‘market place’. I am not just chasing fame and fortune; just sincere connection with our audience.
In 2025 we explored the Hinterland. In 2026 we go home…

Glad to hear that! Happy new year to you, David.

Everything we’ve released so far came through from the cosmic muse, telling us what wanted to ‘be’. The next album is very much an intentional setting-to for a particular sound and theme. It’s really taking shape now.
It’s Bandcamp Friday so your money goes further to help us keep making music for you!

I made a lonely record… with lots of other people… maybe lonesome is a better word than lonely… for those who wander… and wonder…

We are disappointed to have to pull out of playing at Greenbelt 2025 due to a family issue for one of our team. We hope everyone has a great time at the festival and that we get to play another time.
All shall be well.
Unbelievable tone and phrasing…

Thanks Allan! Yes, I have a lot to thank Mark for.
Forgot to mention, I saw @heldbytrees.bsky.social in Manchester last Sunday. Phenomenal.
Second time seeing David Joseph and the gang play live. What switched me on to the band originally was David's love for Mark Hollis. He then went and found musicians who played with Mark and formed a band.
We are planning a live compilation taken from many gigs to be released on CD at some point, yes.
