Are we at the point where Trump's Truth Social posts are legitimate determinants of global politics? This reality may sound depressing/insane/uncanny, but it's also kinda where we're at. I'm left wondering if anyone is driving the ship other than Trump's faltering mental acuity.

As someone who has been threatened profusely by LAPD in my last two visits, I agree.

I’m hoping to do a video piece related to some of PeaceHealth situation down there.
A 30% cut doesn’t bode well for increasing wraparound services, which are essential to raise exits into permanent housing.
I’ll try to get some more details. For now, subscribe to my Substack and keep an eye out for more. open.substack.com/pub/lastweek...
Wilson did announce a 30% cut to the shelter budget in his new budget proposal, but I’m not certain of the specifics yet.
Many advocates are likely hoping this means a move away from costly and ineffective overnight beds, but I’m not sure that’ll happen.
The numbers are actually very very bad: increasing unsheltered population, limited shelter population increases despite expansion, declining exits into permanent housing.
There are serious unanswered questions about the strategy guiding this administration and if any of it is based on research.
The Oregonian had an interesting article about how Keith Wilson spends his Sundays.
Picking up trash looks good on paper, but riding around to find and remove RVs with people living in them looks a lot worse when you consider the state of homeless services in Portland.
I saw a comment complaining about nonvoters looking for a “unicorn candidate” who agrees with them on everything.
Whether you believe that or not, how fucked are we if being anti-genocide is somehow a unicorn candidate?
Senator Cory Booker recently blamed voters for sitting out of the 2024 election, not voting for Harris over her support for the genocide of Palestinians.
Months ago he refused to endorse Zohran Mamdani, the Dem nominee for the largest mayoral seat in the nation right next door to him.
I worry that somehow it’s still going to get fucked up. Maybe the legislature sends it to the voters again and they see the big tax number and not realize it’ll cost them less in the end.
But I hope we figure it out.
I had an idea of how we might sell universal healthcare to rural Oregon:
An ad: “Do you want those rich bastards in Portland to pay their fair share? Support Oregon’s singlepayer health plan.”
Probably a bad idea, but could be a funny counter to some of the likely insane pushback.
“Last weekend, a crowd of protesters came to the ICE facility and showered it in dildos. Yes, I know that sounds weird, but I can’t think of a better way to describe the sheer number of silicone penises that were on site.”

A permanent stain in Oregon history will be that the city of Grants Pass took its desire to punish homeless people all the way to the Supreme Court. The small town was used by cities and states in the West to set the precedent that homeless people can be punished for being homeless—anywhere, anyhow.
So, slavery.
I never got around to it!
True
Less relevant to real life: I’m also just sad because I don’t think Star Wars will ever reach this height again.
Just finished watching Andor. What stuck with me the most is the emphasis on sacrifice and the imperfections of rebellion.
It reminds me of all the different forms of activism I’ve seen across the US resisting ICE. No one knows exactly what to do, but people know why they need to do it.
I know Lebanese and Iranian people aren’t in her district, but showing a bit of solidarity for human rights, or just not killing innocent people, goes a long way.
Just my opinion, but jeez it’s kind of sickening reading this stuff.
Email: Dear Friend, The war in Iran has taken the lives of more than a dozen American servicemembers and injured hundreds more. It has raised the price of gas in Oregon by more than a dollar a gallon and sent shockwaves through the global economy. The United States should not be at war. We need lower costs, not costly wars.
It’s galling how little humanity Democrats even pretend to have. Congresswoman Andrea Salinas sent me a newsletter about Iran. She mentioned gas prices and the dozen or so US service members killed. No mention of the thousands of Iranians and Lebanese people the US and Israel have killed.
Senator Elissa Slotkin: “Hasan calls me stupid every two weeks. Who would go on a show that calls you stupid all the time?” (paraphrased)
Also Senator Elissa Slotkin: Been on Fox News multiple times.
Really happy with how these photos from LA turned out. A quick read with some cool shots of the protest after No Kings on my Substack!
It’s rented although there are some models where people rent and accumulate equity.
It was frequently reported, not as a violation, not as a continuation of the genocide, but simply as something that happened during the ceasefire, a test of peace.
This is how you destroy a word.
When the Gaza ceasefires were eventually ironed out, they were nothing but a phantasm. Israel violated them on a near daily basis, slaughtering hundreds more innocent Palestinians and denying hundreds of aid requests.
It might be hard to imagine approaching a Jewish coalition, months into a genocide, with tens of thousands of civilians confirmed killed by Israel, and saying a permanent end to the genocide is more than you can bear, but they did.
About two years ago I reported on a protest aimed at passing a Gaza ceasefire resolution in Multnomah County. Spearheaded by Jewish Voice for Peace, the action was relatively successful, but some county commissioners felt calling for a “permanent” ceasefire was too far, so they watered it down.

one of the big problems with people calling for the 25th amendment is that it seems entirely disconnected from *who would have to take steps to implement the 25th*.
like, nobody says, "J.D. Vance and Hegseth must implement the 25th amendment" bec everyone knows that sounds ridiculous.
Obviously just my opinion, but for real, let’s not run social housing into the ground before it even starts.
This is probably also a precedent-setting policy since it’s the first foray into social housing.
You can read some things about social housing in my recent piece in Street Roots.
