Flying to Republika Srpska: Trump Jr. set to deepen the family business with Balkan outcasts Donald Trump Jr., the eldest son of U.S. President Donald Trump, is set to arrive in Banja Luka on Tuesday for meetings with representatives of the Republika Srpska (RS) entity authorities in Bosnia and Herzegovina. Bosnian media reports from the region indicate that the discussions will center on potential investments and economic cooperation opportunities involving the Trump Organization. This visit comes as part of the Trump family’s broader efforts to expand their international business interests, with Donald Trump Jr. playing a key role in managing the multibillion-dollar corporation alongside his brother Eric. The arrival has not been formally announced to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Bosnia and Herzegovina, nor has the Directorate for the Coordination of Police Bodies of BiH been informed, despite Trump Jr.’s status as a VIP whose security would typically fall under their purview. It is anticipated that he will land at Banja Luka airport, with security arrangements handled by the Ministry of Interior (MUP) of Republika Srpska. Local authorities have already implemented significant measures to facilitate the visit safely. MUP has issued an order prohibiting traffic for all motor vehicles weighing more than seven and a half tons on specified roads and streets in and around Banja Luka and Laktaši from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. on 7 April. A temporary ban on transporting explosive materials, weapons, and military equipment will also be in effect in those areas during the same period. Exceptions apply to public and communal service vehicles. RS interior minister Željko Budimir stated that police will organize security professionally, following standard practices for VIP visits to ensure the delegation feels safe. Business еxpansion – in the context of global Trump family activities As a central figure in the Trump Organization’s management, Donald Trump Jr. has been actively pursuing new investment opportunities worldwide. He also mentioned that a U.S. delegation would attend the commemoration of the Day of the Breakthrough of Jasenovac camp inmates in Donja Gradina later this week, alongside a Russian delegation led by the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs. Talks on intensifying cooperation with Russia, including the construction of a Serbian-Russian temple, are set to begin. Lobbying efforts and the lifting of sanctions The anticipated visit can be seen in the context of sustained – and successful – lobbying by Republika Srpska authorities in Washington. In October 2025, the United States removed Milorad Dodik and 48 associated individuals and entities, including family members and companies, from the Treasury Department’s Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) sanctions list. Dodik, leader of the Alliance of Independent Social Democrats (SNSD), had faced U.S. and British sanctions for actions that Western governments viewed as promoting the secession of Republika Srpska from Bosnia and Herzegovina, though he has consistently denied pursuing such a policy. Bosnian media have connected the recent diplomatic and business overtures, including this high-profile visit, to years of aggressive lobbying conducted under Dodik’s influence. These efforts reportedly involved multiple U.S. firms, some aligned with Republican and MAGA circles, which framed Dodik and RS as defenders of conservative values facing politicized pressures. After the lifting of sanctions, Dodik and his associates have continued to challenge aspects of the Dayton Agreement and question Bosnia and Herzegovina’s long-term viability as a unified state, without eliciting immediate reactions from Washington.
