Epic downtime feels very Little House on the Prairie codes, like i feel like this is how they would do dietetics on the plains

taking those away would be so detrimental to so many strides made in queer healthcare since the 80s and 90s
sexual health clinics don’t just screen for STIs and hand out Prep and Doxy, they also manage medications for patients living with HIV and connect patients to resources for gender affirming healthcare including mental health, they also collect data to understand these communities needs better
i could always go to my PCP and it would be more expensive but my Prep could be managed, but for so many queer people defunding and devaluing these programs could be disastrous
increasingly concerned that critical healthcare not only myself but also thousands of sexual and gender minorities rely on to remain educated on their sexual health will just not be available one day in the next few weeks
The CDC is removing data sets that researchers widely rely upon because they include information on sexual orientation and gender identity. “It feels like they’re trying to will us out of existence,” one researcher tells @theresagaff.bsky.social:

Deliver us from the presumption of coming to this Table for solace only, and not for strength; for pardon only, and not for renewal
you may be a wholesome example to all people
these sorts of initiatives coupled with the continued rising cost of all foods generally is going to make food access inequality so much worse and will lead to even worse health outcomes for already at risk populations
that being said 1) there isn’t really consensus in the literature regarding what qualifies as a UPF and 2) if you make moves to restrict UPF but do nothing to fix systemic inequalities that lead to people being reliant on them in the first place a significant number of people will
simply starve
i think that raising awareness regarding the potential health harms of a diet that consists of primarily ultra-processed foods is important
me, a dietitian, on the phone with a patient frantically googling “iron rich food list” because she said she doesn’t eat beef OR beans
the vibe all week for some reason
so any advice on science communication skills are appreciated lol
okay i’m finally experiencing the “their prealbumin is low they need more protein!” demands for the first time and i genuinely don’t know how to explain to a team of surgeons why i am not surprised to see a low prealbumin in someone 2 weeks s/p a double lung transplant
happy new year this happy new year that the real ones know the new year actually started 4.5 weeks ago with Advent 1 lets hear it for the liturgical calendar
anyway, i have a cold and i’m spicy now
also why are these folks always brand ambassadors? is it because it’s more about making money than it is applying evidence based therapies (but like really evidenced based therapies, not first trial mouse models or case studies where n=1) to patient care?
i don’t want to express my grievances with integrative and functional folks in too public of a space, but all i’m saying is it should be concerning how often that community shakes hands with conspiracies and pseudoscience to anyone who took their education in nutrition science seriously
very disappointing to see dietitians on instagram promoting raw dairy but i guess it was only a matter of time especially when this persons whole vibe is “balancing hormones” which is *narrows eyes in suspicion* at baseline
Any hospitals using enzyme cartridges for inpatients? Would love to pick your brain!
@doseofdavis.bsky.social
it’s all personal choice and no regulations until people start using raw milk in place of formula or touting it as a panacea and promoting it to immunocompromised populations
this particular “do you own research” protestant reformation style thought regarding medicine, nutrition, and health in general is, genuinely, going to be the downfall of this country.
wicked was so good but i am anxiously awaiting the think piece about how timely it was when the democrats get super resistance-pilled next year.
this reading group sounds really interesting! would love to get involved one day if i’m able to and rounds allows me too lol
apropos of nothing, one of the most important things any of us can do to resist fascism is to refuse to comply early.
this means a lot of things, like not selling out your vulnerable neighbors, and not acting to aid the regime.
it also *very crucially* means not abandoning hope.
growing particularly interested in issues of trust and epistemology in patient/provider communication, health and wellness misinformation, and emerging technologies.
i trained as a philosopher and ethicist in my bachelors and first masters and would love to learn how to stretch those muscles again soon. if anyone has any guidance or recommendations i would love to network some.
very interested in learning more about what participating in and contributing to bio and clinical ethics research looks like as a practicing clinician.
