Painting featuring a person riding a small-wheeled bicycle with a Wolt delivery bag on the back, and a woman siting on top of the bag. They're on the edge of a sidewalk with a lamppost next to them. A graffiti-covered wall is in the background.

It sucks that we have to write this same article over and over again every year, but I always appreciate it when larger media outlets do it, even if they never quite hit the most important point: that we won't solve this without confronting car dependency itself.
My block club is constantly reporting people to the police that leave cars parked on a lawn. If it's one day and the reason is obvious, they're not going to. Otherwise, it is a ticket.
So glad to see bipartisan work from Debbie Dingell, D-Ann Arbor, and Tim Walberg, R-Tipton to try and get resources to support the whitefish. @bridgemi.com 's reporting is making a real difference. bridgemi.com/michigan-env...

Why don't we use the money to make the streets safer?

Why is it we can find ways to deploy police but not street interventions?
Certainly something to be said about being consistent and doing what works even if it is considered unpopular. Michigan dropping the ball and only allowing itself to further lag behind.

It seems super weird that there isn't a political party in the state making this a major issue.

A crisis that could be seen miles away and one that Michigan "leaders" have ignored.

Michigan, when?
From @planetdetroit.org
"Post-restoration monitoring revealed the return of five species of herpetofauna, including the eastern American toad and the northern water snake, species that hadn’t been seen in significant numbers on the island before."

Talked with some neighbors and learned that it was only during the day they blocked it off. There was nobody there later on in the evening leading up to the fireworks.
Went over to Lakewood East park today confirms this as there was an absurd amount of garbage strewn about.
Apparently they didn't close every park. Over at one that got entirely trashed. Why would they block up one park all day and not the ones next to it?

The center is only open until 7...fireworks start at 10. Couldn't find a way to allow it to be accessible to the neighborhood during the literal hottest day we've had this year?
And the rub is that the community center is only closed because they don't want people parking their cars to camp out for the fireworks. Doesn't matter if you walk or bike up, closed because of cars.
Without a library branch and the local community center closed due to the fireworks, Jefferson Chalmers residents in Detroit are left without access to a safe place to cool off during this heat.
Ewald branch of GPP library is also closed without AC.
I spiring to see this French city tackle pollution and excessive car usage in their city center.
Pollution significantly down as it stands with plans to take it further. Detroit should be planning similarly to prepare for population rises.

Awesome event at Detroit Parks this summer.
Sounds From The Parks by Marcus Elliot. Today at Chandler Park.
Next one July 17th at Clark Park.
Hope it gets sold and redeveloped soon! I'm hoping for something worth walking to.
