The wildest part is that 3 of these 22 points (9, 16, and 18) are about how everyone should stop being so mean to them. It’s apparently super bad for civilization and the future of humanity to hurt their feelings.

Apparently, Albania is becoming the new billionaire hot spot. (Complete with land theft from families living there for generations.)

Biden, the Democrats and the Republicans, university admins, state legislatures, journalists and pundits (including you lot) came down so hard on those students--they were expelled, arrested, assaulted, lost job offers, had immigration status destroyed.
ARE YOU FUCKING SERIOUS?
I told someone that I wasn’t looking to buy a smart stove or washer.
They replied, “But it’s okay if people need accessibility technology!”
I just stopped talking and walked off. I already do the internet online. I cannot also do the internet in person.
So I need to stop a panic attack, then call my reps to beg someone to stop him, then do my job answering emails and collecting data. Do I have that right?
I was raised in an Evangelical church. And this apocalyptic thinking was drilled into me nonstop.
Evangelicals are eager for the world to end. A devastating war in the Middle East is a key part of their “End Times” prophecy. Also horrible storms, fires, contaminated water, famine, and rampant disease. The worst world you can imagine, they will celebrate bc it means Jesus is coming back.
Aaron Swartz, who died by suicide after being aggressively prosecuted for downloading copyrighted material from JSTOR, said this of Sam Altman, who went on to become one of the most powerful people in the world as CEO of a company that only exists because of unrestrained IP theft.
🚨NEW DISINFO PAPER🚨 TLDR; disinformation circulates as narratives, not false facts. This paper took five years (!!!) and a rotating cast of collaborators and GRAs. Our case studies include the pee tape, and we have an entire appendix justifying that. www.tandfonline.com/doi/full/10....
Not because he’s not Italian, but because he’s Chris Pratt.
let me tell you something ... an absence of values will have you looking crazy when you run into people with values
It is best to understand this not as a policy document but as an advertisement for OpenAI. If your tools are so powerful that we need to reshape the American economy, then clearly you are worth an absurd amount and everyone should invest in you/buy your product.
Thank you! (I tried to check. But Bluesky’s current wonkiness wouldn’t let it load. So I thought I’d just go ahead and ask.)
I would, please!
Here's the link to the free pdf of my new book The Inattention Economy: How Women of Color Built the Internet. Access is so important and I'm grateful that the press is platforming it as one file that is easy to download. www.upress.umn.edu/978081669906...
This is coming for all of us.
Oh for sure. It doesn’t seem like the place for general shenanigans. But it seems like it would help me keep up with what people are doing/publishing.
Yeah, one of the great joys of my life has been not having to be on LinkedIn. But it seems like a lot of academic Twitter migrated there. So maybe it would be interesting?
It’s infuriating, but also just so depressing. *No one* in charge of any part of our educational infrastructure seems to understand why it’s important for people to…read things that are difficult.
I saw @angryblacklady.blacksky.app postings about VC Andrews earlier. I guess this is how the new generation is getting their incest narratives these days.
They are reorienting from the consumer market to focus on enterprise clients. Because there is way more money in catering to companies that can force you to use AI and companies and governments who can use it on you.
Well when you put it like that, I’m sold.

I always find the "leaving students unprepared" argument to be bizarre, since a lot of guys who stumbled backward into LLMs less than 3 years ago seem to already be pretty up to speed, despite not having been raised on it, curricularly speaking, showing it's not that hard to learn if you need it.
Rather than offering services that generate revenue (OpenAI is burning cash with every single Sora clip), these apps are designed to accustom us to a world in which so-called generative AI seems inevitable—and to provide investors with impressive demonstrations of the performance of these models

I think Sora just signals that OpenAI is done spending money to try to convince the public. They are going to focus on enterprise tech. They are going to sell to the companies that can *force* us to use it and the government who will use it *on* us (and pay in public funds).
I don’t think the end of Sora is a portent of the decline of Gen AI, just a change of tactic. OpenAI has realized that the Palintir model is the path to profit.
Meanwhile, the prototypical “Race Scientist” guy is a tenured professor in a management school who wrote a paper called “The Origins of Oriental Devious: A New Hypothesis” in his spare time after he wasnt allowed to be around female students anymore.
