I really like my domain name, but my registrar gave notice that .sh TLDs are increasing in price, which has happened several times already, and it's getting harder to justify.
I'm sorry Saint Helena, but I might have to abandon you. I guess I don't really write many shell scripts anymore anyway.

A fully text-based adaptation of a constellation diagram that represents four levels of a form of digital modulation called Quadrature Amplitude Modulation.
Been really into making diagrams using box-drawing characters lately. kyer.sh/notes/qam-co...
Remember being on a website and just as you’re about click on something, an ad loads causing you to click on something else? It seems like a solved problem now but I kind of miss it in a weird way.
It’s actually really impressive how hard Outlook tries to prevent you from formatting your email in a way that is visually pleasing
I was inspired to finally put my own site to use after sitting mostly dormant collecting dust.
I will be maintaining a running list of cool, niche websites. It might take on another form in the future as it expands, but for now it lives as the only blog post on the site:

With the state of the modern internet and where it's heading, what we need now more than ever is a resurgence of small, cool sites with extremely niche purposes.
I lived in Germany for a while and their (generously wide) sidewalks are split down the middle - one side bikes and the other side peds. It’s also ingrained at a cultural level to not obstruct the bike lane. It was a great system; it’s unfortunate that we’re lucky to even have sidewalks at all here.
Buttons like this are responsible for so many of my headaches at work. Please stop sending me specs and proposals with made-up features.
I always worry there’s some undocumented detour when that happens. I was at 11th & Grand going south, I watched my bus come south toward me then turn down a different street for a couple blocks, completely going around the stop where I was (nothing happening at the T-Mobile center). Almost comical.
It really sucks bringing friends from out of town for the Super Bowl parade or NFL draft and not being able to trust what ridekc publishes, if they publish anything at all
It’s been so bad. I live in Waldo but pretty much just drive to union station and stick to the streetcar now. bsky.app/profile/kyer...
Just submitted my first serious PR to an open source project that isn't just documentation changes.
My favorite bridge!

Nothing makes me feel more like I'm doing something wrong than when I post on the Kansas City subreddit. I've had many posts removed for stupid reasons, but today's was for "flooding the subreddit" by "posting more than once within a 24 hour period."
wife: how was guarding the two paths today, honey?
guard: [looking away] fine
wife: did something happen?
guard: [tearing up] no
wife: would the other guard tell me something happened?
The beautiful chorus of all the Subarus being unlocked in the REI parking lot. Summer is near.
An annoying and revealing thing about this is employers acting like their hands are tied and they now have to revert the policy they already implemented because this got repealed.
Nothing is stopping any employer from improving their benefits on their own. They don’t NEED to be legally compelled.
Despite my best efforts, at my place of work a lack of planning on your part often does, in fact, constitute an emergency on my part
I successfully submitted a PR to fix some wording in the vscode docs several years ago and I’m still riding that high
Has anyone heard of any planning going on, public transit or otherwise, about the World Cup in KC next year? Does the City even remember it’s happening?
Makes sense. I appreciate the advice.
I’ll admit I was pleasantly surprised at the results when working through a complex problem with focused instructions. I think it’s too early to say if it will be a mainstay, but it certainly helped me through a motivation slump on this problem. I’ve seen enough to at least keep trialing.
This conversation inspired me to face my cynicism and give it a fair shot. I may be cynical but I try not to be stubborn. From what I did today, I definitely see that my cynicism is largely a result of people using these tools as crutches and burdening me with their bad results.
Maybe I’m too cynical, maybe they are too domain-specific, but In my experience they are clueless when you work on anything somewhat specialized without much online info.
I’m not going to force myself to use a tool that I have to beg for good output when I can just spend that time doing it myself.
My grandpa — proud keeper of a purple martin house — instilled in me a deep hatred for European starlings from a very young age.
To this day I dutifully chase them out of my yard when they dare to show their invasive faces around me.
At least the public transit funding is extremely volatile
Kraftwerk puts on a hell of a show
I was decommissioning a rack at a data center and my boss offered me one of our old dell servers with pretty good specs for free and I turned it down because of the power draw. My old laptop does great work + has a built in UPS.
I find it extremely annoying that we append '-gate' to every scandal that ever happens
