I was at Walker library in Uptown Saturday (children and families were inside doing library stuff, seemingly unafraid). The county appears to have sawed off the stone bench that used to be fixed to the wall at the entry.

It is incredibly disappointing to see votes against extending the eviction notice by just 15 days.

What I don’t understand is when the opinions of experts matter to these CMs and when they don’t. Sometimes it feels they pick and choose data to support an outcome they want. Subjective not objective.

so when people get up and talk about how the city council is out of control, and the mayor's office is "the last check & balance" to THEM, it just shows how effective the media campaign has been to bury the way things actually function in the frey administration

this whole uptown safety ambassadors debacle just shows how powerless the city council is to the jacob frey administration

katie cashman was hung out to dry for 2 years with frey not implementing the program they funded, but suddenly with her gone and elizabeth shaffer in, frey can implement it

More than 70 Minnesota children detained during Operation Metro Surge

More than 70 Minnesota children detained during Operation Metro Surge

ICE detained over 70 of Minnesota’s children - ripping them out of school, forcing them into inhumane detention centers, and traumatizing them forever.

We need to bring all our babies home.

Then, the federal government must repair and restore all the harm they’ve done.

“I Have Lost Everything”: The Toll of Cities’ Homeless Sweeps Cities often take belongings — including important documents and irreplaceable mementos — when they conduct sweeps of homeless encampments. ProPublica gave notecards to people across the country so th...

We asked people who lived in homeless encampments that were cleared out in city “sweeps” to write about what object was the hardest for them to lose.

“They took my baby pictures and my moms obituaries,” a man in California wrote.

1000% this. As a resident, Barnette should not be reappointed based on the budget issues alone.

I worked for a progressive City Council member in Frey's first term and when my boss would ask for basic details on police and the budget during Council meetings (in 2020!), the mayor would refuse and once even likened him to a baby for asking questions. Frey eventually just stopped showing up.

Again: for any big liberal donor who wants to funnel millions into fixing this country's politics, the ROI on buying any struggling paper and simply tasking it with doing real reporting on local news is vastly higher than the same $$ given to some group that does mass ad buys every election year.

In Duluth, a bathhouse has been serving the community for decades Duluth Family Sauna has private rooms available, and a communal men-only space in the basement.

We don’t need to look far to see how bathhouses can be important venues that serve communities in many different ways. The Duluth Family Sauna has been operating since the 1920s, and serves a broad range of people.

Writing fat characters who are easy to love but *impossible* to desire is not the favor to fat people that many writers seem to think.

(It is, in fact, precisely what Shallow Hal set out to do.)

one thing democrats should think about when they consider their "messaging problems" is how often they tell their base and independent voters that they are losing ass losers who can't accomplish anything because they never have enough votes to make things better for everyone

It's mind boggling and depressing how automakers and oil companies were able to engineer car dependency so deeply that it spans generations and we pretty much can't fathom a way out of it.

maybe the reason for the Minneapolis bathhouse thing getting postponed for more research is the city is scheming punishments for whenever Frey would photobomb somebody in the sauna to show how he's so totally down with the gays

Elizabeth Shaffer is such a bluenose, there‘s a legit debate to the bathhouse issue, but making this a “we don’t have time” thing is basically conservative trolling www.startribune.com/minneapolis-...

Police Chief Brian O’Hara wants a second term. Will the Minneapolis City Council give it to him? Brian O’Hara enjoys broad public support and the continued loyalty of Mayor Frey, yet key City Council members have soured on him. Getting reconfirmed may be an uphill battle.

Council members Vetaw and Rainville informed Mayor Frey they are not supporting Chief O'Hara's reappointment. This is surprising because the old adage is that Vetaw and Rainville would support a ham sandwich wearing a badge. Big blow to O'Hara's chances.

My local coffee shops have ICE OUT signs. Most restaurants, too. The grocery store front windows are filled with signs that say "ALL ARE WELCOME HERE... EXCEPT ICE"

There were even more a few weeks ago. Some have come down as ICE activity has declined.

But most signs are still up. We're still mad.

Ah cool the push to repeal the bathhouse ban in Minneapolis has made the news. Straight people, let me answer your questions:

- No, we can't just do it at home
- Communal spaces are different
- Would you rather we do it in Loring Park after dark?
- You can already do this in Duluth
- Yes. Duluth.
