Things I don't get...

If the vast majority of what you do is repost, why the heck would anyone follow YOU?

At the very least quote a post and add something that indicates you care about it!

There is a video on YouTube somewhere highlighting just how much thought was put into the 800. The models that came after got cheaper, marginally better in workings, but cut some of the corners in the process. e.g. open the cartridge port door on the 800 and it cut power, on the XL/XE this was gone.

The Atari SIO was kind of the forerunner to USB. Joe Decuir is credited with a significant role in both. SIO had plug n play. SIO had daisy chaining. SIO read the drivers it needed for the hardware attached from the peripheral itself. Before its time.

Busy whittling down the accounts I followed on Twitter as I discover their Bluesky accounts. Adding the tech related people here and others to a different account.

239 down to 84.

Surely this is confirmation that Bluesky is the real deal!

2/3rds are here!

Not doing 20 days, but I credit "Mapping the Atari" with really solidifying my interest in programming way, way back in the mists of time!

Deno, the next-generation JavaScript runtime Deno features improved security, performance, and developer experience compared to its predecessor. It's a great time to upgrade your Node.js project to run on Deno.

Deno, with it's ability to compile JavaScript based source to an executable for desktop platforms (Windows, macOS and Linux), has suddenly become compelling to me. So I'll be exploring this for a little while. Albeit slowly.

BeIA - Wikipedia

Yup, BeIA was specifically built to use a web browser as its UI. You can read more at en.wikipedia.org/wiki/BeIA

It was a dumbed down BeOS called BeIA (Be Internet Appliance), and, as far as I know, the eVilla only presented the user with a web browser.

Just over a week ago, as an experiment, I added "โ˜‘ #SelfVerified" to the top of my description. Note: SelfVerified and not Verified. Verified would imply a third party had confirmed the identity. Best I expect is it makes someone take a second look at the handle. Does it increase trust? Don't know!

If you've set a custom domain as your handle, you should get a verification tick. But all it really verifies is that your Bluesky account is linked to a domain. Great if you're a big name like Microsoft. Doesn't really prove much if you're an individual, unless people already trust the domain

@bsky.app Now we have "Starter Packs", publicly shareable lists, why are "Lists" public? They seem to be pretty much the same thing!

I'd understand it, and would appreciate it far more, if they were private!

LiveStore looks interesting...

It's also good to see that @localfirst.fm has a presence here on Bluesky!

localfirst.fm - A podcast about local-first software development. A podcast about local-first software development.

My mind is slowly being pushed back to favour web development thanks, in no small part, to the concept of the "local first" movement!

The bad experiences of the past few years are pushing me even more towards the idea of "local only" with "local first" sprinkled on after!

It's amazing! Without any effort at all I got up to 20 followers.

TWENTY!

And then, without any further effort, I got up to 19 followers!

Follow me for more network building advice!

Millions have joined recently and it seems a lot of well known people in the various topics I'm interested in are on board. So it's just down to y'all using it. Never a big Twitter user myself, but I'm slowly weening myself into and getting comfortable with Bluesky. I think it's the real deal!

I rather liked the look of the Sony eVilla, if you can call it a computer.

โ˜‘ #SelfVerified my account! When you click on this tag in my profile and select "See #SelfVerified posts by user" you should get to this post where I explain I've linked my domain to my account such that my official Bluesky handle is @stephenfirth.co.uk. That's about as verified as I can get here!

For the first time ever researchers crack RSA and AES data encryption Chinese scientists reveal D-Wave's quantum computers can break RSA encryption, signaling an urgent need for new cryptography solutions.

Not great news for cryptography

An idea going through my mind. A social network where everything is end-to-end encrypted. Even public posts and group posts. I mean, everything posted "publicly" would need to be individual encrypted between every participant! By golly, I think I've cornered "inefficient"!

#Mastodon or #Bluesky? Mastodon or Bluesky? Mastodon or Bluesky?

After yet another less than convincing forced Mastodon migration, I'm leaning much more towards Bluesky!

There's just something about the splashscreen that says "this is gonna be a slick and hassle free experience"

So, I can export my data from Bluesky and, unlike practically every other network, I don't have to wait 24+ hours for them to "compile" my data. At least for now. It is instant. The only questions I have are... what's a .CAT file and how do I uncompress it to view it's content?

Interesting that one of my accounts is acting somewhat flakey tonight. Just one. Also interesting is which one it is.

So, in forging yet another lovely iron rod for my own back, I took the opportunity to confirm my revised Bluesky DID assumption and managed to verify, quite easily I may add, that my original assumptions were indeed... *ahem*... dumb as fuck!

1 year ago 0 0 0 0

I am presently busy making a rod for my own back!

1 year ago 0 0 0 0

It's also in the source code of your profile page. So, yup, you can lookup the DID for anyone and it will remain constant even if they change their handle.

And this negates the thing nagging at me that didn't feel right.

1 year ago 0 0 0 0

I made the additional assumption that it was generated at the time you want to link it to a custom domain. This is not right. It is assigned at the time you create the account in the first place and probably has nothing to do with the username.

1 year ago 0 0 1 0

I suddenly feel like a dumbass. When I got my DID I made the assumption it was based on an encryption of the username/domain. But something didn't sit right with me, because the domain wasn't really involved using the thing I used to "generate" mine.
