I observed a brilliant colleague teach a class last week where the students are creating poetry films, and she warned them that the iPhone isn't great for capturing the Moon. But it turns out that if you actually go to the Moon, it works pretty well.
how is this literally happening in real life
Someday, with luck and hard work, she will have a name too.
it's abuser behavior all the way down—look what you made me do: you forbade me from criticism and value judgments, you wouldn't let me say American culture is the best, so I had to stomp you with my hard power
I am so ready to celebrate your book when it comes out, hopefully when you stop at Books and Books in Miami on your worldwide book tour.
The guys who marched in lockstep with Bush during 9/11 and the Iraq War, and are now convinced those were Jewish plots, now want you to believe that Trump — who they have also spent a decade in lockstep with — is part of the same.
They won't do manicured lawn, that's for sure, but if you don't mind it a little longer and a little raggedy, then it does the job. I'm a little raggedy myself so it suits me fine.

December 2005: I moved to Miami and have used a push mower ever since. It has been the source of many positive conversations with neighbors.

screenshot of a reposted post describing Florida as "world leader in Sentence exports" over a fake tweet by XWYZ 7 New (a station in Detroit) with a mugshot of a woman with bleached blond hair and a black eye patch below the headline "A Florida woman is facing charges after using a kayak in a mall fountain while dressed as a pirate and shouting orders at shoppers". The photo is captioned ORLANDO FL PD (a quick internet search will show that OPD mugshots are not captioned that way).

Weird how aural memory works—I remember the timbre of his voice (but not the Cuban song he played after the intro).
He was only 5 years older than me, my god.
I taped his show, then taped over it later. I have a vivid memory of a taped album ending, then his voice breaking in from the recording underneath, telling a listener's story about a long, roundabout trip from England to Cuba. I can hear him now saying "Gander, Newfoundland" with a quizzical tone.
Andy Kershaw, the soundtrack of my youth, RIP.

maybe this is why Ashley Moody's newsletter has started showing up in my inbox again
First they came for the billionaire pied-a-terre owners and I said nothing.
Then, after a few seconds, I said, great job, New York City, your turn, Miami.

I think it's very, very important for Scotty to be careful when he talks about dilithium crystals.
I think it's very, very important for Judith Butler to be careful when they talk about gender.
I think it's very, very important for LeBron James to be careful when he talks about basketball.
I think it's very, very important for NASA to be careful when they talk about matters of aeronautics and space.
thank you to my birder friends for refraining from pointing out my mistake in this post yesterday—chimney swifts fly north and northeast (not south!) from the Caribbean, Mexico, and Central America to reach South Florida in April, on their way further north to breed
