Mysteries, Yes
By Mary Oliver
Truly, we live with mysteries too marvelous to be understood.
How grass can be nourishing in the mouths of the lambs.
How rivers and stones are forever in allegiance with gravity
while we ourselves dream of rising.
How two hands touch and the bonds will never be broken.
How people come, from delight or the scars of damage,
to the comfort of a poem.
Let me keep my distance, always, from those who think they have the answers.
Let me keep company always with those who say
"Look!" and laugh in astonishment, and bow their heads.

This image shows a person sitting on a bench seat inside a train or subway car, holding a large, fluffy dog on their lap. The dog has a thick, light gray to tan coat with a darker face, and its tongue is hanging out as it appears happily panting. The person is wearing a red jacket and blue jeans. The dog's leash is visible, and the person's hand is gently holding it. The window by their side lets in natural light, and blurred passengers can be seen seated further along the train.

Of COURSE he's insider trading. He's a crook, he's ALWAYS been a crook, he's using the presidency to make billions.
He ran to stay out of jail, to make money and to feel powerful, because that's what a narcissist like him gets off on. It was never about helping people.

I love revisiting Jane Austen - always more to find than I remembered. I think Mr Tilney, with his gently ironic humour, is one of Jane Austen's most attractive heroes.

I like Rebus and I agree with your view of good crime writing. I don't think Tooth and Nail is one of his better ones - it's an early one and by his own admission Rankin was still finding his authorial voice when he wrote it, but it's still pretty good.

Book cover of Between Living and Dying: Reflections from the Edge of Experience by Ruth Scott. White cover with rainbow coloured streaks like clouds across it. Additional text says: ' Foreword by Richard Holloway' and 'Beautiful, brave and most of all, inspiring' Chris Evans.
Between Living and Dying by Ruth Scott. Memoir of a woman diagnosed with lymphoma in 2017 - reflections on experiencing severe, then terminal illness. Full of joy and insight as well as sadness - a deep and hopeful reflection on how we face uncertainty and pain. Creative and thought-provoking.

Each sheep represents the beautiful diversity of humanity, joyfully playing together. It’s a reminder that love doesn’t ask us to hide who we are. It invites us to walk boldly in it. And to have fun doing it. This is choiceless and nonpartial compassion!

Even if we agree with 'just war' theory (I don't), this doesn't meet the criteria. They are: having just cause, being a last resort, being declared by a proper authority, possessing right intention, having a reasonable chance of success, the end being proportional to the means. 0/6 criteria met.
