The implicit media consensus is that urban voters should not be able to overrule rural voters, but that rural voters should be able to overrule urban voters, an assumption so axiomatic and unquestionable that nobody even understands they're making it.

The US Senate takes power from urban voters and overweights rural populations. It is our most egregious gerrymander. Somehow these people never complain about that.
Yeah - time and again people have merely asked the court to maintain the status quo while the court decides the merits of an issue. And the court has decided time and again that the greater damage would not be to allow Trump to dismantle your government before they rule on its illegality. It’s nuts
every single one of these fucking charlatans would support the antichrist himself if he spouted enough anti immigrant and anti trans shit as he rode through town

I hate to whatabout, but this was literally the core of what right wingers wanted to impeach Biden over.

"The election denial movement is now interwoven within the federal government"
Imagine a study that found kids with ADHD have more visits to doctors than kids without ADHD — and used that finding to suggest ADHD treatment doesn't work. That's the standard of evidence the anti-trans braintrust is willing to accept.
I wrote about the worries that the GOP won't concede. I think it's important to recognize that they have been accepting election losses as a matter of course since 2020...with a couple of exceptions. www.everythingishorrible.net/p/orban-conc...
In an american city, lots of people who didn’t commit any crimes are still afraid to *step outside* thinking an armed masked agent could be still right around the corner
To step outside. In the nominal land of the free
I make an annual trip to northwest WI to photograph them, it's so fun to watch. Meteorological spring in the northwoods usually still feels like winter (cold & drab) so it's often poor conditions for photography but the sound & movement are worth it just to watch even if none of the photos turn out.
64 makes the most sense to me, on a satellite map you can see the transition there from farm to forest. "Up North" = "The Northwoods" so you have to get into the woods for it to count.
I've gone blue in the face saying this but this is completely illegal and if it's not stopped now it will be a preview of 2027-28, when Trump will just keep the budget going by himself
Nothing I could say about the GOP base is as illustrative as the fact that Trump understands that posting black people in what his audience considers a “white space” will make them incandescently angry bsky.app/profile/atru...
So, thing that is apparently better understood inside academia than outside of it:
International students pay sticker price. Most domestic students do not. International students are subsidizing the education costs for domestic students, as per student governmental funding drops.
"This is not an obscure technicality. It is the statutory backbone of the constitutional power of the purse, codified precisely to prevent executives from spending money that has not been authorized by Congress."

"bad defendants make bad law. And the law being made here — that platforms are liable for the “design” of how they present the third-party content that is their entire reason for existing — will not stay confined to companies you don’t like."
What to call this corruption other than a wholesale looting of the federal treasury by the President to benefit his supporters using a DOJ that is run out of his White House — but gussied up with the language and procedural flourishes of a normal settlement of a legitimate legal dispute.
SUCH a fun, enlightening interview with @kezarus.bsky.social about how Nintendo taught us to play. So much to learn from a company that respects....playfulness (and the time needed to cultivate it)

I feel like a lot of ppl are missing the big picture here with ICE in airports. (1/3)
The President is freely moving federal law enforcement officers—who have shown a willingness to engage in violent behavior with no meaningful accountability—around the country to solve his political problems.
If this had happened under the Biden administration, Republicans wouldn't have waited for the smoke to clear before calling for Secretary Pete Buttigieg to resign or be fired. Among other demands, Democrats need to make it clear that Sean Duffy has got to go.
Reminder that this is intended. Literally. The person in charge of implementing POTUS agenda, Russell Vought, said one of his stated goals is to traumatize federal employees.
i think we can all agree that if this TSA nightmare was happening when a Democrat was president, the entire media ecosystem would explode with outrage at the sight of a Transportation Secty doing partisan media instead of anything remotely related to his day job.
The USPS IS NOT LOSING MONEY. THE USPS IS SPENDING TAX DOLLARS ALLOCATED TO IT BY THE BUDGET. THE USPS SHOULD NOT BE REQUIRED TO ZERO OUT ITS BALANCE SHEET IT IS NOT A BUSINESS IT DOES NOT HAVE SHAREHOLDERS. IF THE USPS IS OUTSPENDING ITS BUDGET IT SHOULD BE ALLOCATED MORE BUDGET.
Trump does not think strategically, historically, geographically, or even rationally. He does not connect actions he takes on one day to events that occur weeks later. Allied leaders know that if they help him in the Gulf, he won't be grateful, or even remember

NYT on Feb. 13, 2026: The visit also demonstrated the relative foreign policy inexperience of Ms. Ocasio-Cortez, who has made a few overseas trips since taking office but does not sit on any House committees devoted primarily to world affairs. She struggled at times to formulate succinct answers at a nighttime panel session, during which she was asked probing and specific questions about how to respond to international crises. Questioned about whether the United States should send troops to defend Taiwan if China invaded the island, she stalled for roughly 20 seconds before offering a substantive response. “I think that, uh, this is such a, a — you know, I think that — this is a, um — this is of course, a, uh, a very longstanding, um, policy of the United States,” Ms. Ocasio-Cortez said, before saying that the country should try to avoid reaching that point with China in the first place.
NYT on March 16, 2026: On Monday, Mr. Trump claimed that “numerous countries have told me they’re on the way,” noting that President Emmanuel Macron of France would most likely help in the Strait of Hormuz and was an eight out of 10. “Not perfect, but it’s France,” he said. Others are not demonstrating sufficient enthusiasm for his demands, he said.
Last month the NYT said AOC "struggled" to give an answer on Taiwan and quoted her with "uhs" and "ums" to make her look stupid
Yesterday talking about Hormuz Trump claimed he's heard from "numerous countries" and said "uh" four times. The NYT deleted the "uhs" and paraphrased him to look smarter:
This whole administration continues to be an object lesson in the catastrophic folly of letting unserious people have authority over serious things
I just keep thinking about how Michelle Obama trying to get kids to eat their vegetables was treated like the end of America.
The way our nation turned its back on those who helped us at great risk to themselves and their families is an unforgivable national shame.
We owed Mohammad Nazeer Paktyawal. Instead, ICE arrested him in front of his children and he died in their custody. We failed him and his family.
