I presume you mean the stuff is so cheap they don’t even bother putting a price on it. The cost of the price tag would outweigh the price itself.

Being a Luddite Is Cool and All, but Have You Seen the Hilarious Tapestries These New Looms Are Making? Don’t get me wrong, I’m as invested in keeping my job as the next weaver. When the boss brought in that big new power loom, I was pretty skeptical....

"This machine-slop will lead to the death of my craft, all so we can reflexively consume mass-produced garbage and keep the working class poor. I get why Luddites are pissed, and if these tapestries weren’t so funny, I’d be right there with them, bashing those machines to bits."

Why not? Is a bit racist in its depiction?

Came to Germany already. I have it & actually find it ok, it’s €5 if you allow ads, which pop up no more regularly than I remember it back on real TV. I am actually happy I can complete Sopranos which I hadn’t seen to the end & *some* new stuff like The Pitt are pretty good. I don’t work for HBO!

“Failing Philip Glass is a far-left elitist who is loosing his marbles quicker than Sleepy Joe Biden. I just listed to one of his so-called works and HE FORGOT TO INCLUDE ANY INSTRUMENTS FOR THE WHOLE RECORDING!! Thanks for your attention to this matter.”

For anyone interested in historical & international precedents of protesting priests: 60/70s liberation theology (during right-wing military regimes in South America) and in late 80s German Protestant churches helping grassroots protest organisations (last days of East German communist regime).

I live in Germany and I have children; I find the almost universally used l kindergarten system good as it works through a lot of life skills stuff, also helps socialise kids in a group, and teach spoken German to kids from homes where it’s not necessarily spoken.

What was your #childhoodcinema?
Colosseum in Carlow (Ireland). First film I saw there was He-Man the animated film. Last one was Jurassic Park. Closed in 1993.
There was a sweet shop beside it, so my other memory is sneaking in stuff rather than buying from the more expensive cinema snacks.

Are there any consumer studies which assessed whether shops make considerably more money or just more or less the same intake on those products, just over a longer time period…?

My brother, working in the USA, cannot conceptualise that I, working in Germany have no fear that a colleague or boss will contact me outside of hours, unless it’s really really an emergency. Feierabend ist Feierabend!

All my life I was intrigued by a fragmented memory of seeing a strange creepy scene in a film as a child in the 80s, on the short lived Super Channel. I few months ago I saw Psychomania and was thrilled to realise that the scene came from there. Though it’s look had morphed a bit my mind.

For me it was seeing Edvard Munch as a teen (recorded by my older sister on VHS from a BBC2 late night showing) that changed my idea of film and documentary
