A new paper from the HiTOP Revisions Workgroup (and yours truly) on the conceptual and philosophical underpinnings of the framework. Recommended reading for anyone interested in questions of classification and psychopathology!

Measurement invariance of hierarchical taxonomy of psychopathology across sociodemographic covariates: A moderated nonlinear factor analysis approach.

Excited to share this new paper in JoPaCS! We tested whether HiTOP dimensions generalize across sociodemographic strata with MNLFA. After correcting for measurement noninvariance, @hitop-system.bsky.social dimensions remained broadly generalizable. Link to paper: doi.org/10.1037/abn0...

We investigated the @hitop-system.bsky.social Brief Report (HiTOP-BR) in two German samples. Although there is room for improvement in certain areas, the HiTOP-BR provides a time-efficient and psychometrically acceptable assessment of the 6 HiTOP spectra. doi.org/10.31234/osf...

Yesterday our outgoing and incoming Executive Committees for the HiTOP Society met to reflect on how far we've come and where we want to take things in 2026. There are not many things I feel optimistic about right now, but this group is one for sure ✨

Our inaugural elections for the HiTOP Society Executive Board are underway!

If you're a member you should have received your ballot yesterday. Please vote by November 19th, and thank you for helping shape the future of the society.

I’ve spent the last 8 years(!) working from the position that HiTOP relies too much on analyses of traditional diagnoses, baking in limitations of the DSM, and that we need to move to symptom-level analyses to fix it

It turns out that rebuilding HiTOP from the ground up doesn’t change much 💀

Very excited to see this out from @hitop-system.bsky.social! It really seems like these are two literatures poised to advance each other. Looking forward to reading this with my lab.

Using HiTOP in Research
Using HiTOP in Research YouTube video by HiTOP

We’ve just published another video on HiTOP that tries to flesh out a bit more how the framework can be helpful in research: youtu.be/q0jOi_Nl1yo

We hope it’s useful, and are keen to hear any feedback

Thanks again so much to @tashtc.bsky.social for all of her hard work creating this video series ✨

Look no further for an *excellent* overview of HiTOP! This chapter for the upcoming Oxford Handbook of Dimensional Models in Psychopathology does a fantastic job of pulling everything together.

Tam Pham is an absolute superstar and I feel very lucky to work with her ✨
