Dunked on this yesterday but in reality the first order of business needs to be punishment. I'm not kidding. We can't start fixing anything until we punish, and punish hard, the people who put us here. That needs to be done to send a message. And if we don't punish, nothing else will matter.

This is not the hat of a man without vanity.
He knew he was retiring soon and he still did this. For the party that thinks he and his family are subhuman. Shame on him for collaborating to the end.
This is the part that’s truly depressing and scary to me. The Kids Today are learning that talking this way in public is societally acceptable. It definitely did not used to be.
Oh, because the parents’ marriages were not approved by the Church? Do they also reject kids of divorced parents, I wonder? 🤔
The Catholic Church wants to receive state money to fund a preschool that rejects children if their parents are gay or trans. Not only is that a terrible violation of church-state separation, but it’s evil and anti-Christian. Shame on the hate-filled people behind this school and this case.
I was looking back at my school yearbook from Kindergarten (1980-81) and was depressed to see that most of the married women faculty and staff were just named Mrs <Husband>. (That reduced in future years and by 1984 they had their own names, at last.)
Look, for my money the absolute game changer technologies right now are batteries and biosciences, not statistically modeling a mid conversation, but you do you.
the tech fascists think they are so clever and smart but their entire worldview is just a bunch of stale apologetics for race hatred and fascism
Oh dear, in the article it gets sooo much worse, even.
NASA and Mamdani are proving that Americans are desperate to see their money spent in ways they feel good about.
This, however, is not the same thing as simply spending the money on things we would feel good about but never know happened. People need to be able to see it.
This is weak sauce. You could actually speak the truth and lead your colleagues in refusing to go to such events, but instead you wear a pocket square that isn’t even readable? True failure to meet the historical moment. Continue to be disappointed in you, Jake.
I mean, this has been possible for 40 years. Is this an actual problem?
(Having read the tiny tidbit at the link, no, this is just clickbait.)
Incredibly funny to watch the right wing going Oh so just because I love money and hate poor people I'm a bad Christian according to "the pope"???
I don't recall any previous transformative technologies that had to be sold to the public so hard. No one in 1999 was going, "Guys. Cell phone? It's coming, whether we like it or not. I think it's important, FOR WOMEN ESPECIALLY, to learn about cell phone. So that we're not left behind!!"
I do not want to create an account or open a subscription I just want to buy a thing and never hear from you again why is this so hard.
Photograph of a mixtape with song listings written in an interesting sloping handwriting. The cassette is called "Toast & Jam" and the songs range from DJ Krush to Zap Mama.
A reversed question would be: why has efficiency (and income) become literally the only metric through which we measure success? I like to own things, not lease them. And I like to remember when that was a viable option. And these mixtapes, they are something special. Thanks Hanif Abdurraqib.
If this actually happens, it may rank as the single most corrupt act in the history of American politics. I cannot believe this is even under discussion.
Ah, yes, the famously underplayed Nutcracker and Swan Lake! Maybe they could spice things up even more by programming Beethoven’s widely ignored Ninth Symphony!
My name is Dave and I’ve never made a sports bet in my life.
Hey, me too!
The fact that Mamdani just seems like a cheerful normal guy who's policies are things like "we're going to tax second homes to fund pothole repairs" or whatever and yet this generates panicked responses like "This is basically Stalin's great purge turned up to eleven" is... telling. It tells things.
"The average net worth between Jeff Bezos and 1000 homeless people in NYC is over a million dollars, so why don't the homeless feel rich?"
I think this is best explained by Brad Lander’s “folder or fighter” binary. Spanberger and Mamdani are both fighters, willing to go after the GOP overtly, and most centrists are afraid of alienating even one moderate swing voter, ergo folders
turning a big dial taht says "Which Country to Invade" on it and constantly looking back at the audience for approval like a contestant on the price is right
I would consider the teen birth rate crashing to be a resounding success. Kudos to everyone involved.
Um… “hanging out at the library” is, in fact, using that service.
The Catholic Church is wrong about plenty of things but they are 100% right about the morality of war.
(No comment about how well the Church itself has held to this ”thousand-year tradition” which would notably include … *checks notes* … oh, um, ALL of the Crusades.)
