White boomer academics will complain about being underpaid (in their chair positions) and then laugh at people trying to advocate for fair pay and more sustainable workplace cultures in the same goddamn breath. I am TIRED.

BREAKING: Kimmel is Uncancelled (for now).
But note! Disney isn’t bringing him back because of the law, morals, ethics, or any of those noble reasons.
They’re bringing him back because they lost billions of dollars. Boycotts work. Keep piling on. Fascist actions should have lasting consequences.
We built a calculator that doesn't work, but don't worry, it's also a plagiarism machine that will tell you to kill yourself. It runs on the world's oceans and costs 10 trillion dollars.

AI hype is going to drive people who actually know how to do the work, and do it while upholding professional ethics and values, from libraries, from education, from medicine, and on and on and on. It's already happening.
The Black Panthers weren’t just infiltrated because they were Black, they were infiltrated because their communist ideology had began to influence not just Black people, but other groups within this country
Communism was working and the FBI and CIA went through great lengths to stop the spread
What Will It Cost to Renovate the 'Free' Air Force One? Don't Ask. [via The New York Times]
Oh, I dunno, Times. Perhaps do ask.
Libraries have been handing AI the shovels needed to dig their cataloging departments' graves for a long time now, but this still sucks.
Kill the Hays Code in your head.
It is so deeply concerning to me as a museum scholar that Monticello chose to condone the Trump administration's goal of defunding museums by hosting one of the worst war criminals in world history at his request. They should be ashamed of themselves for failing their community so profoundly.
Hwæt! They don’t love you like I love you
Today's Supreme Court decision, though couched in the language of freedom and inclusivity, is a tragic failure for both the right to read and the rights of LGBTQIA+ people. Authors Against Book Bans stands firmly and fiercely against the decision and its rationale. To allow parents to "object" to the presence of positive books about the lives and rights of LGBTQIA+ people is to allow them to "object" to the existence of LGBTQIA+ students, parents, educators, and others in the wider community. You cannot “opt out” of reality, no matter what today’s majority opinion states. These books belong on shelves and these stories belong in classrooms and curricula.

If, as some collections folks have been discussing, "machines become the primary users of online collections," I'm gonna need a new career.
I have no interest in doing work to facilitate machines.
My job is about people.
I know many people my age still have a lot of nostalgia around Harry Potter and might be tempted to watch the new HBO TV series.
Please, I'm begging you, do not tune in.
J.K. Rowling is singularly motivated. The new Harry Potter series is a cash cow intended to fund anti-trans bigotry.
The only stories I want to read about Elon Musk are investigative pieces about why the hell he hasn't yet been arrested for illegally demolishing the federal government in order to line his pockets and steal data.

So happy for Tamara Lanier. After years fighting Harvard she has won. We were blessed to have her in our last keynote dialogue for Who Owns Black Data talking precisely about that protracted fight. See? Archival reparations are possible.
reputable medical journals keep saying that RFK and his pro-disease friends are full of shit and so naturally they must be shunned www.politico.com/news/2025/05...
In the 168 days since the UnitedHealth CEO was killed, ~32,000 Americans have died due to lack of healthcare. And rather than stop this atrocity, MAGA GOP is working to further gut Medicaid & Medicare.
Here are 2 actions you can take to help stop this injustice.

The Canadian government needs to do a massive PSA blitz telling people that genAI lies and the results from ChatGPT and all the other slop machines cannot be trusted, at all.
