NYT reporting that China intervened with Tehran to push for a ceasefire at the last minute. Not that shocking tbh, any wider escalation risks forfeiting the massive benefits China is getting during Washington’s distraction by squeezing their energy supplies and economy further

Google just plugged Gemini into Google Translate and it is nigh unusable. Keeps adding things that weren’t in the original or skipping over things that are too complex

Alt text: Vintage Chinese propaganda poster showing a smiling toddler in an orange romper and silver helmet styled like a space suit, sitting on a toy rocket and reaching toward a white rabbit that offers a bouquet of flowers. The child wears a toy camera and is surrounded by dreamy imagery including stars, a temple, doves, and a small astronaut figure in the background, creating a whimsical space-age scene. Red Chinese characters appear below the image.

Since Artemis will orbit the moon today, sharing one of the all-time great Chinese propaganda posters, in which the moon rabbit gives a bouquet to the world’s most cherubic astronaut. The late scholar Stefan Landsberger used this as the cover of his wonderful book of Chinese posters.

15/ This will have the biggest impact on China. At 5.2 mbd, any disruption to Persian Gulf supply would hit China harder than any other nation, with limited short-term substitution options. Approximately a third of China's oil supply comes from the Gulf.

I’d love to see the average white North American Tik Tok user be subjected to a Chinese auntie’s blunt comments and probing questions about your weight, love life, babies, and salary.

I’d bet that many would not be “Chinamaxxing” anymore

Japanese PM Sanae Takaichi's reaction as Trump says "Who knows better about surprise than Japan? Why didn't you tell me about Pearl Habour?"

Undoubtedly the worst American diplomatic gaffe in post-war US-Japan history.

I just simply cannot imagine being a supposedly Serious Person and directing my staff to police which photos of me as a public figure got published, not to mention the staff gleefully going along with it as if it was normal (yes, I know *image* matters, that is not what this is)

Trump Declared a Space Race With China. The US Is Losing If you want to put people back on the moon, don’t gut the agency in charge of getting them there.

NASA just completely overhauled its lunar program, functionally admitting what I reported a while back: that China is in position to beat the United States back to the Moon, and declare an end to a century of American technical and scientific supremacy.

China's Draft Cybercrime Law The draft is already controversial, with some commentators concerned that it increases online surveillance, fortifies censorship, and extends long-arm jurisdiction to conduct overseas. While it is not...

There is so much going on in the Draft Cybercrime Law that I can't do it justice:
- fortifying real-name registration
- threatening VPNs
- China's first penalties for possession of CSAM
- cyberviolence protections
- New offenses for enabling cybercrime (including converting gains to crypto)

Allow me to rush to say that economics columnist Adam Tooze knows nothing about Chinese military modernization. Being smart about one thing does not make you smart about everything.

This would indeed be explosive if true, but I would encourage deep skepticism lacking further confirmation. Someone like Zhang either suddenly going turncoat or being a longtime US asset without being detected is nigh incomprehensible
