Those lucky enough to study at or just visit @durham.ac.uk, based in Durham Castle, will have noticed this stunning Romanesque doorway. It has never been analysed or studied in any detail. We have funded a team from the uni who want to change it. Find out more: castlestudiestrust.org/blog/2026/04...

I think my 'favourite' from our version of the shitshow was 'right-sizing'. I called out our head of school and said 'at least do us the courtesy of calling it what it is: redundancy'.

Eng Lit was our best performing department last time and is now in teach out. I'm so angry.

Utter vandalism. Solidarity to all at Wolverhampton facing a bonfire of the Humanities.

And as others have said, what is it going to take to get the government's head out of the sand?

This utter vandalism and I am so sorry. I hope the union fights the 'no voluntary scheme'. Solidarity.

We were given the 'new improved curriculum' excuse, too. It's uncanny.

'Speak now, my whole heart! speak now to God, saying, I seek your face; your face, Lord, will I seek (Psalms xxvii. 8). And come you now, O Lord my God, teach my heart where and how it may seek you, where and how it may find you.' 2/2

Anselm of Canterbury's feast day today. From his Prosologion:
'Yield room for some little time to God; and rest for a little time in him. Enter the inner chamber of your mind; shut out all thoughts save that of God, and such as can aid you in seeking him; close your door and seek him.' 1/

upper body, side view of Graham Ibberson's statue of cricket umpire, Dickie Bird located in Barnsley, UK town centre. The statue depicts Bird in familiar umpire attire, including a flat cap, and with his right arm and right hand index finger extended - the accepted hand signal to communicate that the batter is out.

Looking at your church website the builders certainly went the full Greek there.

I went to Sicily last year precisely for the fabulous Normanness (not a great surprise there, then). Cefalù was wonderful, Monreale blew my brain, Palermo in general, just wow. The Greeks knew a thing or two about how to represent the Divine.

The Psalms can always be relied upon. Psalm 22:14 is extremely evocative.
I am poured out like water,
and all my bones are out of joint.
My heart has turned to wax;
it has melted within me.
