The one and only @francesdoingthings.bsky.social interviewed me for Ravenous and it includes a screenshot of the nutty email I sent out like "uhhh hey so who is interested in starting a worker-owned food site?" www.weareravenous.com/jaya-saxena-...

Happy to report he's feeling much better today. Trotting along on his morning walk. 😄
Thanks! He’s such a cutie, right? He’s had a long day, but he’s finally snoozing. 💤

When my dog is sad, I’m a mess. 🙁He’ll be okay. His 3-month bloods checkup went well (doing pretty good, in fact!), but he’s got a sore shoulder from a vaccination that was due. Just too many jabs today. I love this little dude so much.
The first panel shows a crow with the title "How to live a good life". The second panel shows a crow cawing at itself in the mirror with the subheading "Make friends". The next panel says "Explore" and shows a crow looking into a commercial waste bin. The next says "Try new things" with a crow eating something vile. The next one says "Be curious" and shows the crow grabbing a hissing cat's tail". The final frame says "Get a hobby" and shows the crow looking closely at a book of matches.

Yesterday, we were out for a walk at a nature preserve and spotted a Pileated Woodpecker. First time I’ve seen one in person - they are large! So pretty too! en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pileate...

So… how about that AllBirds news, huh? When shoe companies “pivot” to become AI companies. We all know how this goes. 🫧🫧🫧
Straight onto my to-make list! Wow! Looks so good! 😋
Something that's bringing me a lot of joy lately is a project I've been working on called "The Eternal Order of The Prestigious Pencil." Analog arty exploration via Sketch Scavs and more! Let curiosity lead. Log off with us and see what you discover. #EOPP www.nicolablack.com/eopp
It may sound dull to some. But there's so much you learn about yourself when you're not flooded w/distraction. I'm much more interested in freeing up my brain to see where my natural curiosity takes me. There's SO much to learn. It's more fun to discover and explore than to consume what's there.
Which turned out to be my favorite part of the day. In fact, I'm going to make that a regular thing when there are clear skies like we had last night. It was magical. The wind was blowing and dried my hair for me after a long bath. A nice way to slow down before going to bed. 🌌 A perfect day.
I noticed a lot. I'm a quiet person and enjoy my solitude, but I definitely do reach for my devices when there's a lull. Aside from the weather, I usually like to end the day with some TV time. Instead, I took my time to cook and enjoy a delicious dinner. Then, I decided to do some stargazing!
It was so good I'm making it a monthly practice. Highly recommend if you need to feel more grounded. For me, I didn't feel the urge to look at my phone aside from wanting to know the weather before Ollie and I's walks. But I just did that old school. Maybe it'll rain, maybe it won't. Adventure!
I did it because I noticed the buzz of anxiety I was feeling and my need to refresh the news. That, and my entire analog ethos as of late. It's driving a lot of what I'm creating in this era of my life. Knowing how good slowing down and just 'being' is for me, I dedicated the day to it.
Yesterday, I fully logged off. I went the entire day without screens. It was so nice. Some of what I did: morning coffee w/my feet in the grass, meditation, writing, walks w/my pup, cleaned the house, made a slow and delicious lunch, danced, a long bath, looked at the stars, read, and more.
It's such a low-key resistance move but talking about not using AI, especially in a professional context, is so important in working against "inevitability" narratives and so powerful in identifying who your people are — and in ensuring there are more of us all the time.

More of this. 🙌 Going straight onto my good company to support list.

It’s horrible. 💔 My favorite (sarcasm) has been watching people who I care about fall victim to it even as they’ve seen us struggle. Both a kick in the face to us as well as true worry for them because they don’t see how it will do the same to them. I fucking hate it.
Also, fucking thank you @mollycrabapple.bsky.social for all of your hard work on ALL of this. We need voices like yours. Forever grateful. In solidarity. ❤️🙌
All of this. The way our work lives, in my household, have changed since 2022 or so is something I wouldn’t wish on anyone. We’re an illustrator and designer who’ve felt it majorly. We were vocal. No one listened. Even ignored because… who cares? No clue or care until it affects them directly.
