As someone who has cultivated this dynamic in my own relationship, I could tell this is a good match in like less than a second. Y’all need to be having impassioned conversations about all topics, consequential or not!!!

Also, importantly, these people weren’t born with all this knowledge. They have lots of training!!! And no one person is sufficient, it’s the culmination of talent across thousands of people.

“You don’t need to be an engineer to participate in this kind of work.” - Teasel Muir-Harmony

I think this point can’t be emphasized enough! It bums me out when people tell me they’re not “smart” enough to work in science. We need all kinds of skills/contributions to achieve these amazing feats.

While Washington wages war on science, NASA just sent humans to the Moon's vicinity for the first time since 1972. Bravo #TeamNASA — proof that public science, when it's funded and trusted, still does extraordinary things.

CNN has a rotating set of talking heads on to talk about the launch….thank goodness Bill Nye took the opportunity to point out the current assaults on science. Everyone else should be doing the same!

Nextdoor is diabolical for so many reasons, including the fact that they send digest emails with “top posts” that aren’t time-stamped. You click through only to find out they’re from 10 days ago…..

My colleagues at @sfsu.bsky.social used 3 decades of data to show that students with low undergrad GPA have equal PhD completion rates compared to students with high GPA. @sfstatebio.bsky.social

Please stop saying the bill allows "no more multi-year funding" - or at least be clear the 'more' is in reference to disastrous FY25 levels.

The bill allows 39% MYF, same as in FY25, which contributed substantially to a 24% drop in new research.

The bill has some wins. MYF is not one of them.

The very wise (and excellent committee chair) Mark Heise refused to refer to my oral exam as anything other than my “topic selection meeting,” which was a gracious and useful reframing for me!

ABC News ran this photo tonight w the phrase “Liam sleeping peacefully in his father’s arms” (not a direct quote), which is missing crucial context from Castro’s other posts. His father said Liam is so depressed that he’s sleeping all the time, and constantly asks after his family and classmates.

The NIH has lost its scientific integrity. So we left “We can no longer lend our credibility to an organization that has lost its integrity,” write four scientists and administrators who recently resigned from the NIH.

“Not only is our health at stake, but this attack on science is an attack on freedom of speech and thought. What we have seen at NIH is a threat to the fundamental freedoms that all of us cherish”
