I went to check out the VAS exhibition at Custom Lane gallery on my lunch break today, it’s really good! Lots of beautiful wee sculptural pieces, many of which you are encouraged to handle. That’s my cyanotype sculpture there 😻

I’m excited to show my cyanotype-printed silk sculpture at this VAS exhibition opening next Wednesday, 11 February at the Custom House Gallery in Leith!

They are made by painting a light-sensitive chemical solution onto paper, and can be exposed outside using sunlight with no need for a darkroom. The process is hands-on, slow and meditative.

These prints are from a series of cyanotypes based on close-ups of flowers in my garden. Cyanotypes are one of the earliest photographic processes, producing rich and beautiful blue tones.

This is a sculptured vessel based somewhat loosely on a bladder campion flower. The dandelions on the cyanotype pattern are a symbol of resilience and community. I am struggling with a name for this piece- any ideas?
