Everyone talking about how bad the optics are on this political stunt is missing the point.
This is more than a political blunder. This is a deep and damning indictment of America.
It highlights the complete and utter failure of our society. It shows we will rob from Grandma to feed the beast.

Hanging with my brother and the @johnsoncountydems.bsky.social at Servaes Brewing for trivia! Let's elect more Dems in KS!
Kamala Harris warned everyone.
Hillary Clinton warned everyone.
Both were ignored and now the entire world is in imminent danger. I’ll never regret voting for them.
Like… We cannot go ahead and have the World Cup now like nothing is going on. Regardless of what does or doesn’t happen tonight. Countries should simply refuse to send teams. The rest of the world cannot treat us as a remotely normal country after this
Fuck. This whole thing is sad.
This is insane.
I'm sincerely scared for my children.
Almost kept my kids out of school today just to do something fun before our "normalcy" was completely shattered.
Yeah.. I feel like I'm taking crazy pills. Dropped the kids at school and seriously pondered if I should have just kept them out and have a fun day while we can.
I feel sick to my stomach waiting around to see what atrocity Trump has in mind for the people of Iran this evening. It's hard to fathom our other elected leaders aren't able to check him in any meaningful way. It's an indictment not just of voters but of our whole system. We're ruled by a mad king.
I texted my family group chat asking if anyone else noticed this as the inflection point. If he drops a WMD or attacks critical civilian infrastructure are we all just going about our days tomorrow??

It felt surreal dropping my kids off at school today, genuinely wondering what tonight would hold.
Today could be the last day of "normalcy" that the world knows, and it seems like no one really notices.
If this madman tries to use WMDs, I hope there are enough brave people to invoke the 25th.
Unhinged
Thanks @timmiller.bsky.social for letting Al Gore cook yesterday on the @thebulwark.com pod. He is such an introspective person, and can really speak to this moment from his own experiences, and his understanding of philosophy and history. He had a lot to say and you let him speak. Great interview.
They know Kushner and Lutnick are just in it for their own personal gain through business dealings in Israel.
Make a quick buck before killing American service members
Yeah it's been out of commission for over an hour now.
@60minutes.bsky.social I appreciated your interview with Pahlavi, but feel like you guys missed an opportunity to explain the historical context of why his father was in power in the first place. American intervention in the Middle East has been screwing these people over for generations.
You see, the thing is that they couldn't stoke enough domestic unrest in Minneapolis to declare martial law, so now they are stirring up potential terrorist activity to do the same.
I honestly can't tell if you are attempting to suppress people's desire to take action, or just talking to talk.
People will have to make the personal decision if they can participate in a general strike.
It's a risk assessment. Risk of authoritarianism vs potential personal harm.
If you don't want to feel the pain just say it man.
I live in KS & want to organize a group of CIS white men to purposely use the wrong bathroom & get reported. We can receive our written warning, & our trans allies can collect the bounty & donate it to a LGBTQ organization. Let malicious compliance take down this obscene bounty system.
I agree. Laundering this administration's lies has become a business model for them.
Another reason we need to reform labor laws. If your job is that inflexible don't participate and hope others can.
The reality of the situation is that any massive social change has the potential to cause pain. We need to be building the grassroots support structure to sustain the movement.
Being complicit in the rise of fascism has been a business decision for a lot of these "news" networks.
If you're only striking once every 50 days I don't think you run the risk of losing a job over that. I just don't know if it has enough impact to be effective.
That's an interesting take. I wonder if it would be impactful enough one state at a time.
It's their business model
Agreed. They had $1BN in profit in 2016. Largely because of the Trump hysteria. They've been riding that bandwagon for a decade. I completely agree that it is a business decision to be complicit in the rise of fascism.
