A fantastic line up of speakers.
Hope to see many of you in wonderful Mainhatten (Frankfurt).
Happy to share another paper from the lab.
While KEAP1 is often mutated in aggressive lung cancer, its loss can paradoxically suppress tumor growth in certain contexts by inducing Nrf2-driven reductive stress.

How do immune disease-relevant variants rewire gene regulation in CD4+ T cells?
In a collaboration led by Daniel Schraivogel and Lars Steinmetz at @embl.org, we combined two large-scale CRISPRi screens (4.1M cells) to map the downstream cascades of thousands of SNPs.
Out now on bioRxiv! 🧬🖥️
Dewi Moonen, @anniquec.bsky.social and a team led by Lars Steinmetz and Daniel Schraivogel at EMBL have mapped the downstream regulatory networks of thousands of immune disease-relevant variants in CD4+ T cells

Very proud to see this work out on bioRxiv. Using genome-scale TAP/Perturb-seq we mapped the function of immune-disease variants to target genes and regulatory cascades. Have a look at the 🧵from @anniquec.bsky.social for more info!
So great to this preprint out.
It was/is such a pleasure to work with this fantastic team.
Congratulations to all of you!
Congrats. That’s a great story!
Our preprint is published in MSB! This time with the correct preprint post below! link.springer.com/article/10.1...
The public event "CRISPR Gene scissors in Dresden" is taking place March 26 to 29. The "CRISPR-Roadshow" is teaming up with partners @mpi-cbg.de, @tudresden.bsky.social, and @crtd-tud.bsky.social for a wide range of activities on the CRISPR/Cas method. www.crispr-whisper.de/2025/10/01/d...
Insights from the 2nd EuroDepMap Symposium are now out in FEBS Letters.
Last November at Human Technopole researchers in cancer functional genomics and computational biology discussed challenges and future directions in mapping cancer vulnerabilities and building predictive frameworks.

You know your crowed…… thanks for sharing - will take a deep dive.
💫 Thank you to all participants and speakers who joined us at the 2nd @eurocancerdepmap.bsky.social Symposium!
Together, we’re advancing #cancer functional genomics across Europe.

Start of the second session of the 2nd EuroCancerDepMap symposium with a talk from Manuel Kaulich
The Synthetic Lethality and Innovations in CRISPR Screening session begins with @manuelkaulich.bsky.social telling us about exciting CRISPR libraries they have developed and how nuclear mRNA processing can mask the CRISPRko phenotypes @eurocancerdepmap.bsky.social
Beeswarm plot of the prediction error across different methods of double perturbations showing that all methods (scGPT, scFoundation, UCE, scBERT, Geneformer, GEARS, and CPA) perform worse than the additive baseline.
Line plot of the true positive rate against the false discovery proportion showing that none of the methods is better at finding non additive interactions than simply predicting no change.
Our paper benchmarking foundation models for perturbation effect prediction is finally published 🎉🥳🎉

We show that none of the available* models outperform simple linear baselines. Since the original preprint, we added more methods, metrics, and prettier figures!

In times when science must defend itself, the decision by the German Research Foundation (DFG) to significantly support German universities through the Excellence Initiative for the next seven years is a signal that stands unparalleled.

Such a wonderful example of what genetic screens can tell us about human patho/physiology.
Cudos @mgarnett.bsky.social, Fiona Behan and many more.
Congratulations! & thanks for letting us contribute to this wonderful story.
Congratulations. On top of my reading list.
A record low…. only 16% of Germans think that Germany can trust the US.
A record fast…. never before lost a US president support for its political agenda that fast.

New Gordon Research Conference Alert: Synthetic Lethality Approaches in Oncology. www.grc.org/synthetic-le....
Join us 20-25th July 2025 for an intimate meeting with thought leaders in the field. Great for networking and opportunities for early career scientists to present their research.
80% of Germans (84% participation) voted for democracy.

Interested in synthetic lethality or how functional genomics can be leveraged for clinical benefit?
Then, this is the place to meet:

If you search for unexpected phenotypes (genetic interactions), aren't they expected when observed? 🤔
Which rate do you consider appropriate,
10% or 1% ?
Thinking about grant alternatives to fund basic research?
Provocative thought - How about getting a royalty rate per accessed publication (per corresponding author)?
