The massive response to my #Typst article* suggests that Typst is gaining ground much more rapidly than even I expected:

Škoda DuoBell: A bicycle bell that outsmarts headphones:

This will save some bicyclists from injury, but has the unfortunate side-effect of also allowing more of the morons who wear these headphones on the street to reproduce.

Congratulations on your publication (and an interesting exploitation of Julia design).
This study investigates the possibilities of applying classical MCDM methods to grey numbers by leveraging operator overloading and multiple dispatch features of Julia programming language.

Julia is quickly becoming the successor to Fortran, once the standard for high-performance computing in science, mathematics, and engineering. It’s powerful and fun to use. Get a solid foundation with a good book:

Two surprising (to me, at least) theorems that endow the gamma function with a kind of uniqueness:

I suspect this is what’s happening (again, without actual data): the average trip speed is high because the average includes long trips to the suburbs. But my impression of slowness comes from short trips within DC in which the trains seem to creep along at a leisurely stroll.
I will defer to this assertion until I can come up with some data to support what I admit is a subjective impression. Maybe the NYC subway seems faster because it’s so much noisier. Newer systems like the DC Metro are wonderfully quiet.
I will soon make a trip to DC, so I look forward to enjoying Metro rides without being tossed back and forth like a bunny in a hound’s jaws every time we approach a station.
I know that the trains reach high speeds on some long stretches. That doesn’t mean the system is not weirdly slow on average.
I’m from New York. I support government investment in public transportation. But your metro is slow and hardly goes anywhere.
Also, why haven’t they, after 50 years, learned how to stop the trains smoothly? The > 100 year old New York subway doesn’t have this problem.
Also, DC Metro is expensive.
I hope you find my book useful.
After writing it a new approach to data in Julia, developed by Alexander Plavin, emerged:

along with a related way to plot data:

I think I prefer this way to DataFrames.

First data from 2026 on US generation. Power use in January down a tiny bit from 2025. Hydro is up 30%(!) probably due to the warm winter out west melting snowpack early, which means bad things for summer. For now, it's pushed both coal and gas down. Solar is up 16%.
