On March 1, demonstrators converged on the Federal Building outside the Twin Cities, temporarily blockading ICE inside it.

On one side of the building, fifty people established a shield wall. Sheriffs attacked immediately, but they held their ground for almost an hour.

GitHub - jtriley2p/open_repeater_map: A Free and Open Source Interface to Repeater Book With Open Street Maps A Free and Open Source Interface to Repeater Book With Open Street Maps - jtriley2p/open_repeater_map

app's not available on app stores; for that, the repeaterbook folks have one already, but neither apk nor source is available

but if the repeaterbook ppl are cool with it, maybe this could expand to use their active services in the future.

in the meantime:

here's a cool thing i've been tinkering w for a few weeks now:

open repeater map uses localized repeaterbook.com data to map out all the repeaters on a native flutter app completely offline

open street map tiles req internet but can be cached for offline too :3

the actual id is broadcast via bt & wifi protocols, so step 2 is extracting the message from the respective packets

from the neighbor's fpv drone to the local pd's drones

if the state imposes blanket surveillance on us, we should be able to surveil them too ๐Ÿ’œ

so faa req's drones broadcast a unique id + some location data on the drone & the pilot. but there's a catch; the spec's proprietary

so heres an reference impl of the core data types & (de)ser system instead:

@ocks.org sry for the ping, ik it's like 10 yrs old lol but i'd love to see the animations if you've a way to restore them ๐Ÿ’œ

Sticker that says "Blue Lives Murder" with an armed pig.

norcal pigs raided some houseless folks outside a nonprofit food distro today. volunteers & the houseless begged to let them just take their things and leave.

they refused, then destroyed everything.

not the state,
not the police.

it was honestly eye opening just how consistently the "left blindspot" was just low factuality, ragebaiting garbage

like we know reactionary news lies but the extent and consistency of the sensationalism was smth i wasn't as aware of until ground news

still unsubbed to it tho

interestingly, there are technical foundations for this in crypto systems, but to serve the public interest we have to strip out capitalist mechanisms

"cryptoeconomic" mechanisms can be replaced w community trust assumptions; but audibility, validity, and distributed consensus work out of the box

abolish detention alone as a means of punishment, most crime is a result of material conditions and improving them would drastically reduce crime

there's nuance to other cases, but this arg tends to focus on rehabilitation and constructive correction over isolation and forced labor

happy juneteenth, great book for today: revolutionary s*icide by huey newton

chattel slavery abolition was a significant step but from far from the last in black liberation

from nestle's malian slaves to the systemic violence against the black community; there is no freedom until everyone is free

clothing is also important, but it can be reused and redistro'd many times

re data/information, i'm making a push for sovereign infra in the local community, but it is secondary to food & such atm. plus it takes time to get ppl to migrate; we're *just* getting everyone on signal

food is constantly & desperately needed; the black panthers started their free breakfast program bc they realized that food insecurity drastically impacts student's performance

ofc this needs funding, but growing our own food for distribution makes it significantly cheaper and more sustainable

love this! i started going to libraries again bc they had the books that corporate book stores wouldn't sell, but as an adult, libraries feel like such a radical space.

the free renting of books and tools is great and the exchange of ideas in a genuine third place is almost surreal ๐Ÿ’œ

the library economy does not abolish the notion of personal property but rather creates a shared space for the cataloging, renting, repairing, and replacing of objects which we may not need all the time.

the basis of the library economy is of human connection rather than capital exchange

one speculative system for a solarpunk collective is that of a library economy.

this codifies a basis for human existence where we share labor to meet the basic needs of food, water, shelter, and consumables while reusable objects are shared rather than owned.

the movements for black liberation in the us especially set excellent examples for direct action

the black panthers led free breakfast programs for tens of thousands of school kids

african american people consistently lead trainings and guide others on political dissent and civil disobedience

true solarpunk requires a radical rethinking of how we collaborate, how we produce resources, and how we appropriate these resources

mutual aid groups volunteering labor and resources to share between one another without hierarchies or institutions is something we can contribute to _today_
