If Jeff Bezos could afford to spend $75 million on the Melania movie & $500 million for a yacht to sail off to his $55 million wedding to give his wife a $5 million ring, please don't tell me he needed to fire one-third of the Washington Post staff.

Democracy dies in oligarchy.

there are a few outlets that require owners who see them as a public trust. the post is (was?) one of them, a national institution of accountability and public knowledge. nobody should ever forget what bezos has done, & i truly hope he faces consequences.

My story on Elon Musk cutting safeguards at xAI is on the front page of today's @washingtonpost.com. I’m also among 100’s of reporters laid off. I absolutely loved my job my brilliant coworkers & the thrill of reporting @ the center of forces upending the world: AI & Silicon Valley’s political power

One more comment on the Post debacle: this hurts journalism broadly. Good journalists will go do something else. The rest will be fighting for fewer jobs and everyone will earn less. Fewer people will take up the career. The damage done is to the ecosystem, as well as the paper.

Breaking: Washington Post gutting its climate team Clean energy dies in darkness. Courtesy of Jeff Bezos.

I don't say this often but: I'm so proud to be a climate and environment reporter. We cover an issue that is vitally important to humanity and the natural world. 14 of my climate colleagues at the Post were laid off today and I'm devastated.

We at the @postguild.bsky.social are raising money for the hundreds of journalists the Post just laid off. This goes to the people who are hurting, not the Post. Or if you'd rather, go subscribe to an independent journalist. Support is hugely appreciated.

Among the other outrages in today's news from the @washingtonpost.com, management has gutted the Pulitzer-winning climate team, according to @sammyroth.bsky.social. Their work has been so important — one more reason to be heartbroken today. And pissed. www.climatecoloredgoggles.com/p/washington...

Jeff Bezos’s wealth has increased an average of $70 million every day of 2026, meaning that he could have offset The Post’s losses with what he’s made since Monday.

A scientist questioned new microplastics findings. Then other researchers fired back. A prominent scientist criticized microplastics research methods. Others are defending the work.

Scientists were frustrated by a piece in the Guardian earlier this week that seemed to call into question the science on microplastics in the body.

I wrote about why researchers are certain microplastics are in the human body -- and what we still don't know:
