I don't trust the vast majority, if anyone, with a gun. All it takes is one moment to result in a fatal shooting. But if there is to be those with a gun, I want them to be highly trained & their guns locked away outside of the intended use (e.g. SWAT when working). I certainly wouldn't trust cops
There is an obvious solve for reducing (eradication would be hard in the US) the number of gun crimes, which is reduce the number of guns out there, with voluntary gun disposal, better vetting, no guns sold without tracking, no guns sold except in dedicated licenced shops, etc. Its worked elsewhere
Tbf, the majority of UK citizens (and across most of europe) don't tend to own guns, let alone many guns like the US citizens. So armed police are really not needed in the majority of situations & don't tend to kill but incapacitate instead. However, UK cops are not good or trustworthy
