We are allowed to hold our reps accountable for their words & actions. I live in Chicago. I don’t have any GOP reps to yell at. My Congressman takes AIPAC $ & refuses to answer any questions about his support of Israel. I’m not doing the work of the opposition when I demand he respond to us.
Sorry to hear that. I’m just really sick of people putting the weight of the world on young people who are struggling as it is.
We had it so easy compared to young people today. And if you can’t see that, I don’t know what to tell you. Quit complaining about other people and do something to make the world a better place.
I have heard way too many of my peers say shit like “I put myself through college & didn’t ask taxpayers to pay for it” or “why should I pay more so some lazy person gets food” or “universal health care will let lazy ppl be unhealthy while I pay for it.” I’m so fucking over that shit.
Stop telling literal children that they need to save the world while we still have the ability to do the work ourselves. The lack of empathy for people who don’t think their vote counts in this system, who have no hope of owning a home, or clean air & water etc is gross.
We - white Gen X and Boomers - have continued to allow the government to slide to the right because WE were ok. We had the luxury of affordable housing & entry level jobs that let us grow into a career & college educations without horrifying student debt loads.
Young people today don’t need your moralizing about how they aren’t doing things the way you think they should. What they need is support. They need our generation to acknowledge the shit world we’ve left them & do what we can to fix it.
You’re the one who said you shouldn’t have to do anything to encourage others to vote because they should want to vote anyway. I’m saying that attitude won’t work to fix the situation. So you can sit on your high ground & judge people, as you have done, or you can work to fix it.
I hope that you are constantly bothering your GOP buddies about this. They should get zero rest right now - their phones should be ringing 24/7 and Dems should be shaming them into the ground for supporting this carnage.
I’m actually trying to meet non-voters where they are. I’m not better than them just because I vote and I’m involved in politics. I’m also not lecturing them about how their failure to vote is a moral failing even when they know their vote literally doesn’t matter because of the Electoral College.
All this “I did X when I was younger so why aren’t young people doing it now” is annoying when you don’t acknowledge how fucking terrifying the world is for young people right now. Putting the responsibility on them instead of our elected officials is cruel.
How much student debt did you have? Could you get an entry level job that paid enough to afford rent & groceries. Times are very different in this moment for young people. And seeing how pro-Palestine protestors were treated under Biden did huge damage. Under Trump things are worse.
I’ll be honest - all the pearl clutching by the Dem elite makes me want to listen to him more. If they think he’s dangerous, then he’s probably doing something right.
You haven’t seen the videos of people getting arrested and being physically dragged out of GOP town halls? Do you know that most GOP reps and candidates refuse to even have public events?
You can have stand on your moral high ground all you want but that will not convince anyone to vote when they believe (often with evidence) that their vote doesn’t matter. So stay where you are, feeling superior, or do something about the problem. It’s your choice.

If you want more people to believe their vote in a Presidential election matters then work to get rid of the Electoral College or at least get your state to apportion electors based on the popular vote.
It makes sense to them. And that’s what matters. If you want to encourage those ppl to vote, telling them that other ppl would love to be able to vote isn’t going to cut it. And it’s true that Dem voters in very red states don’t much matter in Presidential elections bc of the Electoral College.

And voter suppression. And the existence of the Electoral College creates a situation where people in strong red or blue states believe (pretty much rightly) that their vote doesn’t count anyway. Plus just generally feeling like the political class on both sides doesn’t care. Rightly.
