In 1984, our edu team saw a show, “That’s Incredible”, featuring a girl who trained rats to play basketball for school. They were immediately obsessed and knew it was perfect for the sports psychology exhibit in development at the time. She came to the museum to train our team & the rest is history!

Happy World Rat Day! 🐀🌎 🎉 Rats may not have the best reputation, but these curious critters are incredibly smart & sweet. We've had real rats playing real basketball— and teaching our community about positive conditioning —at COSI for over 40 years!

While sunlight is made up of many wavelengths of light, our eyes detect white light. This kinetic sculpture of a tree has diffraction gratings on its 'leaves' which split up that white light into individual colors of the visible spectrum— revealing rainbows! 🌈

Sunny days always bring us back to the Spectrum Tree! 🌈✨ This kinetic sculpture was created by William Wainwright and has been with our museum for over 30 years!
