This Earth Day I'm reflecting on the state of the world, rejecting doomerism, and focusing on action. I'm planting native trees, shrubs, and perennials. I'm grounding myself and watching life grow around me. Will it make a difference? Dunno. But at least I'm trying something.

It was 80 deg two days ago and will be again in a few days, so this random frost sandwiched between is neat
Welp, just spent the past couple hours trying to protect our fruit trees from the coming frost as best we can, with a hodgepodge of sheets, canopies, clamps, chip clips, binder clips, cardboard, and duct tape. Maybe we did enough to avoid losing all our potential fruit for the season? Ugh
I can attest that the world building in Lash Egg is incredibly intriguing. The hymn having potential compositional "flaws" is a really cool touch. Had no idea about the origins of this sort of thing. Soon at @tenebrouspress.bsky.social

I love this, Matthew! So excited for you and your story in Split Scream!
Once upon a time, I got a degree in music composition. I’ve forgotten pretty much everything from that, so I’m sure this hymn is full of “mistakes,” but that was semi-intentional. Early American hymnals were also full of things that classically trained European composers would’ve found wrong (1/4)
Image features two cropped images, "Disturbing secrets in kids movies. 2. Willy Wonka is a villian. He knowingly invited kids to a factory designed to eliminate them." Book cover for ...And Out Come the Toys by Matt Brandenburg.
...And Out Come the Toys is a year old!!!! My little punk take on Willy Wonka being a villain, and his factory full of murder and mayhem!! I had a ton of fun writing this and playing with the movie's beats.

Sprained my ribs last month playing hockey which kept me from climbing (and hockey) for weeks. Finally back at the climbing gym and I forgot how much better I feel when I can leave the world outside and focus solely on not falling off the wall
Well aware there will be a day, and probably sooner than later, when my son thinks the music I listen to is decidedly uncool, but for now I'm going to cherish the sing-alongs
If you own land and there's a Bradford pear growing on it, cut that shit down. Nasty ass smelling invasive tree
The curse is coming...

Went to the Detroit Tigers game today as an end of spring break activity for my son. Had beautiful weather and a blowout Tigers victory. Good stuff 👍
Oh, yeah, the university extension nearest to me is definitely the most reliable resource. I need to get better about going directly to them instead of asking the internet.
Gardening (and fruit tree care) sucks because if you're unsure about best practices and search the internet you'll get a hundred different answers with several offering vehement arguments in direct opposition of one another. So yeah, who knows what to do
