THE SENATE IS VOTING ON THE BOUNDARY WATERS RIGHT NOW!
Tonight, while most people are watching TV or putting their kids to bed, the U.S. Senate is taking a vote that could permanently end protections for one of the most beloved wilderness areas in America.

Sigh --- feeling a little bad today about the situation of all things in US-based science. Funding is skewered, grad programs are shrinking, international participation is down... I'm usually an optimist but this is starting to wear on me.
Thank you #NobelLaureate Jack Szostak for sharing these thoughts, which many US scientists and physicians resonate with

This (zenodo.org/records/1945...) is one of the worst examples of complete horseshit, packaged in the trappings of science, that I have every seen.
If they want to study these compounds scientifically, fine (with appropriate IRB approvals), but this is not that.

more scientists / engineers need to be involved in politics.
SCIENCE!
Helpful reviewer comments, Part 007:
"The author doesn't seem like an expert in this field and hence must try collaborating with an expert and revise the paper to be considered for publication"

That is why Canadians are so happy, we literally eat glitter. 😊

I don't think people fully appreciate how apocalyptic things are for US science. I haven't had any new funding since 2024, but I'm still ok since typical grants are for three years. This means next year I will be completely out of funding and will have to fire everyone in the lab. It's not great.
$1.5 billion. Five minutes before Trump's post. On a Monday morning with no scheduled news.
Somebody knew.

A gigantic record-breaking heat dome is baking the US and war is skyrocketing fuel prices and the cost of living.
If only scientists and climate activists had warned us….
Oh wait they did.
just got a thank you note, including chocolate, and it totally made my day.
thank you, for the thank you notes.
But you actually could do this in your hands... www.nature.com/articles/d41...

It's the first day. Give it time.
ALASKA would like a word.
TBH looks like something my kids would make on #minecraft, before dumping lava on everything to burn it down.
