Today, Chicago Park District workers used heavy equipment to evict unhoused people from Gompers Park on the Northwest Side.
While residents were given some opportunity to save belongings, all remaining tents and possessions were destroyed this morning.

City officials abruptly delayed plans to clear tents from Gompers Park this week, nearly a month after the city held a rapid rehousing event at the encampment.
Help us be able to provide these necessities week after week by donating here!!!! hcb.hackclub.com/donations/st...
Much of the food from our distribution comes from the Chicagoland Food Sovereignty Coalition. CFSC is a coalition of autonomous #mutualaid groups working to reimagine a resilient, sustainable, and equitable local food system based on food sovereignty.
We have implemented a random number system for the distribution line, which will be more equitable and reduce the need for neighbors to arrive early to the church. Numbers will be distributed at noon.
Our April Food Distros will be held April 5, 12, 19, & 26 at Edgewater Presbyterian Church on 1020 W. Bryn Mawr Avenue. We distribute free groceries, KN95 masks, COVID tests, toilet paper, laundry detergent, clothing and more every Saturday at 12:30 in the dining hall on the east side of the church. We may publicly or privately make requests or demands of elected officials, as is everyone’s right as citizens and constituents. We may also do outreach work at public events organized by officeholders. Neither of these things constitutes a partnership, collaboration, or endorsement, and we refute any public statements by politicians describing our relationship as such.

Edgewater Mutual Aid Network is abolitionist. We oppose police, prisons, carceral systems, imperialism, colonialism, capitalism, and the state itself. We reject racism, sexism, homophobia, transphobia, classism, and ableism, and do not tolerate expressions of bigotry. We stand firmly against punishing people, holding power over people, stealing, lying, obstructing people. We work toward a better world where communities take care of each other with dignity, respect, and love.

We do not, nor have we ever, allowed elected officials, politicians, or police into our organizing conversations or meetings, and we do not invite them to our weekly food distribution or to any other events that we organize or sponsor.

We reject any expressions of gratitude from politicians for our work, and understand such statements as tacit admission of their own failures.

Even if an elected official does something we agree with, Edgewater Mutual Aid Network will never partner with or endorse any candidate. Furthermore, protest of the actions of one politician does not constitute endorsement of any political rival. We do not compromise our values for political access, power, or influence.

Our work is inherently political but operates outside of the existing electoral system. We function independently from, and in opposition to, political parties, candidates, and officials. Mutual aid means building community to care for each other when government leaders fail to, and doing so in the shared understanding that we live in a failed political system.

We commit to speaking out against any government action (or inaction) that harms our community members, regardless of the political affiliation of the decision-makers. We reject the binary framing of electoral politics, which politicians often use to weaponize marginalized communities against each other and to manufacture public consent for unjustifiable actions. As a network, we do not support Democrats or Republicans.
