Ye usually I'd Nope out of that but I figured like, the structure of this book is already weird enough its like kinda abstract poetry in book form so what's one more thing. Took like a chapter or two but I kinda got the rhythm dkhgdjjdgfhk

Literally what is even the point of the character limit. Release me.
-or not having periods between a lot of sentences or many times it being unclear whos talking in convos but that twice so far the author has used a tectonic plate metaphor when tectonic plate theory actually wasnt generally accepted until the mid to late 60s
reading an experimental novel about butch lesbian anarchists going to bars in the 50s and its confusingly written at many points but it does have a cool atmosphere and im actually really enjoying it but anyway my criticism of the book is not in the weird sentence structure or lack of commas-
Duolingo making me translate the words of soldiers dying on a battlefield
Luckily theyre pretty chill/nonaggressive! also fun fact, most bites from them don't even need antivenom. they tend to dry bite and their venom itself is fairly mild for humans. Obv don't go picking them up, but if you get bit, as long as you don't refuse medical attention you'll 100% be fine
Wasn't the whole plot of the books that she Didn't want to be the mockingjay,,,,
Literally like. Obv not everything that deals with sensitive topics does it well, but the idea that bc some things address stuff poorly, that means that something addressing it is in and of itself problematic is just like,,, third grader morality and critical thinking skills.
I really enjoyed Leech by Hiron Ennes last month. It's like, a Gothic horror from the pov of a parasite hivemind investigating a new type of parasite. I found it really atmospheric, and it delves into some dark stuff in a really emotional and well done way. Prob my favorite this year so far
What's the best book you've read recently and why?
I saw someone on instagram (whose posts were like "read diverse books to become smart and morally pure!!!1!!!1!") call Speak problematic bc it talks about sexual assault and just. That kind of thing is proof that just bc someone can read, it doesn't mean they can read
The issue of I want to recommend these books but also they focus on heavy topics and have like every trigger under the sun and don't cover your eyes about it, so idk if I wanna risk people without critical thinking skills automatically interpreting that as endorsement or fetishization,,,, ,
Red-shouldered Hawk my beloved,,,
she likes laying and rolling around on celery leaves
The poster goes "What's this next to my goldfinches?" and i think "another goldfinch" and then I open the photo and it's a leucistic goldfinch and I should play the lottery
I like to play this game where when I get a post notification from r/whatsthisbird, I try to guess what bird its gonna be based on the vague caption before I see the picture and sometimes Im actually right and its like hell yeah that "weird bird in FL" sure is a black-crowned night heron im god now
It should be causing a lot more friction in the relationship than it is
Having fun with the book I'm reading, it's cute, but also lowkey like,,,that man should be acting way more traumatized than he is. Even with the trauma he does show, it kinda feels like he is handling these ordeals very adeptly and succinctly for someone with his past events? Idk
Also like, is it fanfic becoming "americanized" as a whole? or is it just that there are a lot of americans that write fanfic.
I love that for her
She has good taste
Ive lowkey developed a second sense for whether something is romantasy from looking at the cover but even then sometimes I get caught off guard
And like, I'll make an exception for recs from people I know well. Like someone on coscrew will be like "this book is good and gay" and I trust that a lot more than some rando on social media saying the same thing. Like ima still research it either way but if I know the person then thats more credit
Literalyyyyyyy
(Also I just ignore pretty much every romantasy unless it's recommended by someone who's taste I know overlaps with mine. Which doesn't happen to often)
god yeah like tropes only matter if I care about the characters man, sell me on the premise or the reading experience or tell me you found the characterization to be well done and then maybe I'll be interested.
Look at. Wompoo Fruit Dove,,,
scrolling through the booksky tag and man I was not made to post like this why do so many popular posts read like op is trying to sell me something. we are all in the same mudpit my guy
Me: "hey can I get some books that explore trauma and recovery from addiction in depth from a male pov? Preferably fantasy genre if possible?"
Google result number 87, a reddit thread: "it's called Im A Slave For My Hot Cocaine Daddy Dom ๐๐๐ฆ and its sooooo steamy"
Like no hate to people who are looking for Stapped By The Alpha but that is absolutely not fitting what I'm looking for man and yet every other result is Strapped By The Alpha: 2 Strapped 2 Furious
